Sewing Suedecloth to PUL and Elastic.. HELP!

Ok, look at these Pics.....
http://photobucket.com/albums/c211/b...loth%20Pocket/

I bought alova suedecloth and decided to make a pocket out of that and PUL. Well, everything went great til I went to topstitch around the elastic and it all went to hell, did fine everywhere else except putting the topstitch around the elastic. You can see in the pics where it did fine until we get to the elastic. Anyone know anything about this? I've had this trouble a little bit when I was making the covers out of the coats when it came to putting velcro on them. The good news is... that elastic rolling tutorial works on PUL too, not just fleece! Yipee... but help me with the elastic now. LOL.

Since the pics are a bit blurry, can you say what problem exactly you had with it? I see multiple stitching lines around the elastic, so I'm guessing that something got messed up (were there bobbin threads tangling or anything like that?) and you had to stop, take it out, then put it back in? Is that correct?

Since you didn't have a problem topstitching everywhere else, all I can think of is that maybe there was a difference in sewing two layers instead of 4 (since when you're topstitching close to the edge, you're sewing through the 2 body pieces *and* the two pieces of seam allowance). But I'm not sure what would cause a problem when removing layers. Weird.

Silly question though... Have you changed the needle? Especially if you've been sewing aplix with that needle, you might need a new one in there. The needle needs to be changed about every 6-8 hours of sewing, supposedly.

Did you have this problem with the waist elastic too, or just the leg elastic? You don't *have* to have casings for the leg elastic. Sewing to the PUL side will make it roll in like you want, and that should be enough (if it's not, try cutting the PUL just a tad bigger in the leg area, forming a crescent shape if you lay the PUL cut underneath the suedecloth cut).

Don't know if I helped any, but you explain the problem a bit further, maybe we can figure it out!

No, there was no starting and stopping, no bobbin tangling, the one pic where it just STOPs altogether is the back elastic actually. I did make the pul piece bigger, that helped greatly with the rolliing leg. The multiple stitching around the legs that you see is where I tried to go back and redo it, I'm getting ready to just take out the stitching around the legs, its too sporadic anyway and looks awful. I have no clue what can be doing it. The needle in it is fairly new, no way have I sewn 6-8 hours on this one... I break needles to often for that. LOL UGH.

I'm still confused as to what the problem is? Is your elastic not stretching correctly or what?

I can't sew a casing after putting elastic in for the life of me. I just sew the casing first, then thread the elastic through and tack it down on both ends. Easy easy. Takes more time, but I always get it right. If you're having problems with the elastic not stretching properly, then you probably caught it somewhere when topstitching. That's the problem I had, so I gave up and went to the other method.

OK, I dont make a casing really for the elastic like youre thinking. I sew the elastic to all the layers, stretching it as I sew, make sense? Then; I turn and topstitch all the way around the diaper and when I get to the elastic i stitch away from the elastic taking the topstitch closer towards the soaker of the diaper then when im safely around the elastic i go back to the regular topstitch. The elastic is stretching fine it has something to do with me stretching when i go to stitch around the elastic AND it being pul/suedecloth cuz I've had no other problems doing it that way with other fabrics. I've had some problems zigzagging velcro to the pul coats I've been using but no other problems regarding the stitching around elastic. Makes NO sense to me, very frustrating.
