Dr. Mercola

Thread Starter
I have read this website often and can't quite get a grasp on my opinion of it, if you know what I mean. For those of you who read it, what do you all think about it?
Did you mean to havve a link?

I believe this is the site that the op is referring to:

http://www.mercola.com/

I've used his research as a reference for some of my vaccination info. What about the site can't you grasp?

I dislike him. I think he is an alarmist and that much of his information is erroneous. He does research and finds facts but then comes to conclusions with that information that I would not draw.

It's frustrating because I agree with him to a certain extent on many topics, but then he goes into these extreme leaps and I, well, get frustrated.

I take everything he writes with a WHOPPING grain of salt. That being said, I've found some interesting information on his site. Caveat emptor.

I agree with what Periwinkle and Wolfmeis said.

I subscribe to his e-newsletter. I read it with interest but take many of his claims with a grain of salt, as when I have looked into them further they do not seem to be well-supported by research. It's often food for thought, though.

I agree to an extent. That's why I said I've used his research in some of my own vax research. He often does prompt me to think about something that I otherwise wouldn't have...even if he does take it to the extreme. Although, with the barrage of skewed information from the AAP, sometimes it takes an "alarmist" to open people's eyes, KWIM?

I really enjoy his website. Very much so. I find he backs things with "legit" websites and "legit" medical journals. He's my first stop when looking into any medical condition.

That said...he promotes a couple of things that really discredit him , imo.

Like the EFT...emotional freedom techinique. Can't sleep ? Have migraines? Chronic skin problems ? Try EFT....it's almost like saying "it's all in your head". I'm a big believer in mental/emotional health playing a role in your overall physical well being...but I feel like he's suggesting my migraines are in my head.

It takes some digging to get past his EFT crappola. The stuff underneath is actually pretty decent information.

Like others have said I find him to be too much of an alarmist. While I’ve found him to have some useful information he is too far to one side for me to take him seriously. When it comes to researching things I need a happy medium. Nothing that is sooooo far pro or anti.

I think he scares people off. I would NOT send someone his newsletter if I was trying to get them to see my side. They would think I was nuts.

I actually stopped getting his email newsletter because he was too (as others have said) much of an alarmist. I felt defencive even when I agreed with him. (if that makes sence)

Exactly.

I prefer to read Dr David Williams.

I think his basic ideas are good, but he goes way too far into the bizarre. The last straw was when he wrote something about eating only grape skins but not the grape flesh because he didn't like the natural sugars in it! I prefer the Weston A. Price Foundation far more. When you start offering cruises and supplements then you have gone over the edge, IMO.

I used to get his newsletter ( I don't recall unsubscribing but I haven't gotten any lately...)

Anyway, I found that they used to have more info and less advertizing. Little by little he's starting to sell more stuff. He seems to have changed his position on some things as well. For example, he used to be anti-sunscreen for a variety of reasons, then he apparently reversed his position when he started selling a brand of natural sunscreen.

Jen, your migraines are in your head, silly!

So are mine! And boy do I have one brewing today... Gonna be an interesting night.

I agree, though. I think the basic ideas of his "work" is good, but his delivery is alarmist and hurts any credibility he has. I prefer to think of his web site as supplemental and to be taken with a grain of salt, but never a first choice for research or definitive evidence.
