Must vent about 'A Baby Story'

I'm ashamed to admit i'm hooked on some cable 'reality' shows lately. But I think I have to stop...

On TLC's 'A Baby Story' an OB just explained to the camera that she's inducing twins at 33 weeks "because it seemed right"...babies were growing fine, no problems...must've been a great time for her schedule. Mom pushed them out on her back, of course, like in every other episode i've seen.

My favorite, though, was the doctor who complimented a completely numb mom on her "nice, civilized birth...no yelling or screaming." Unbelievable!
Guess this really is the sad state of mainstream birthing in this country.

Sorry, 38 weeks, hormonal and praying for a natural VBAC. Home birth isn't an option; guess I'm getting a little nervous about the hospital experience.
Anyone else in the same boat?

That show pisses me off something bad too. I usually don't watch it, but curiosity got the best of me the othe day and I watched an episode. The mother wasn't progressing quickly enough for the doctor, so he ordered a c-section. I mean, HE told HER everything she was going to do. When she was still laboring, he told her he was getting her an epidural (she seemed fine to me), and then told her she would probably get a c-section anyway. Great for mom's moral, don'tcha think? Grrr...

I'm crashing your thread and your DDC (sorry... ) but I wanted to lend some support. Be good to yourself mama, and stop watching that show! It's no good! Never did anything but scare the crap outta me. I'm preparring for a VBAC in April, and we have enough challenges.

If you really want to watch a birthing show, you should check out House of Babies on DHC. It's based in a Miami midwifery school and clinic. So many positive, natural births are shown! You should check it out. I've been loving it lately. I haven't seen anything vbac specific, but it's so awesome to see all the water births. I tear up every time and it gets me excited puts me in a positive state of mind about birth.

All the best to you.

Thanks for the support, girls! Just set the DVR to record House of Babies.
Meg, can't wait to hear how your home vbac goes. I wanted to do it but was advised not to because the legalities of home birthing in my state (OH) are a nightmare. Midwives, moms have no legal rights. But I have a great, supportive OB.
Hopefully will have something to report soon!

It seems like every episode the nurses come in the room and tell the women to "stop screaming, be quiet." It's really sad.

I try not to be a violent person.... but if someone told me to DO or STOP doing anything during labor.. I would punch them. No questions asked.

LOL I told my doctor that if she even thought about cutting me I'd kick her in the chest. She ended up not being the one to catch the baby and the doc who did didn't do it, so I didn't have to kick anybody. And in cse you think Im kidding about kicking people: The next day I had a fever and she wanted to rule out a bladder infection so a nurse came to run a cath for a clean specimen. She cleaned off my crotch with what I believe to be high grade sandpaper and I did indeed kick her in the chest, across the room. She looked horrified and upset and appologized many, many times. I was there for 4 days with my son and everytime she saw me, she'd go out of her way to appologize. I appologized to her too...See, I'm not a fan of having my girly bits injured

Namaste, Tara
