Running off the Cookies in the New Year - Page 41

hi all -

still sending love/healing/peace vibes to loftmama and family

had to take the day off work today because my dd [she's 2.5 yrs] has a wicked double ear infection we haven't slept in 2 days - she keeps waking up going 'my ear hurts!' the only good thing is that she can now tell us what's wrong!

i have been putting mullein garlic in her ears and dosing her up on lots of vitamin c and echinacea/eyebright. we also just came back from the pediatric chiro, which did wonders [the chiro is an MDC mama too ] but i think we're heading into antibiotic land and upping the acidophilis intake

anyway - i have not run at all - doing the single parent thing again until wed. sorry i have a big 0 to report for mileage this week.

ah well - tomorrow is another day

Yeah! It's an Andrew! That was one of the names we debated, but since the middle name was going to be Anthony, AAS was not to be.

AAAAK! If Kristin's birthday is next week, that means that Phil's birthday is next week! Eeeeek! (It's not just a discussion about garbage, it's a discussion about city trash procedures.)

We're really struggling here. DS has been more fussy than not lately. He pukes acid spit up all the time, so as of yesterday I'm dairy free. That has made me notice that all my snacks are cheese oriented.

My knees and ankles have been hurting for a week. They started hurting about two weeks ago, I replaced my shoes, and then they didn't hurt for 2-3 days. The ache is back and worse than before. So, the question is, do I stop running and lose 15 pounds before going back to it? Do I only run on the track (BORING)? Something else? I've been stretching a lot this week, but no improvement. Normally, worn out shoes are felt only in my right knee. This time it's both knees and both ankles and my feet hurt across the tops as well. I think the sore feet is due to the fact that I spend a lot of time holding Elliot and calming him with a high frequency bounce, but running and walking seem to make it worse. Advice?

and garbage hauler/garbage/trash/whatever. It's still something I never thought i'd actively care about. Much like cutting the grass. blech.

Hey, guys, I'm posting from labor-sitting land. I have an 18 yr old first time mom in labor (with a room full of very interesting looking characters.) She's been creeping along since yesterday, but is now finally 8 cms, so I'm just waiting for the baby to decide to put in an appearance. (I've actually been her doc since she was 14 and tried so hard to keep her unpregnant, but it just doesn't always work. She's done really well with the pregnancy, though, and is coping beautifully with labor, so let's hope having a good start will help her feel empowered to be a good mother.)
I ran 3 on the treadmill last night, but tonight is my planned off day anyway. Will try to run Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sat this week.
If any of you who nursed older babies ever had latch issues, check out my thread in Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy and give me some tips, will you?
Back to the baby now, I hope!

Hi everyone. loftmama,

2bbs, glad you are a bit better.

kpinnny, good to see you. Nutrition/exercise plan starts tomorrow? Wow, you waste no time.

Geofizz, sorry to hear that things are tough. I have heard, by hearsay, that being even 10 lbs overweight can be hard on your knees. Course, you are talking more about your back. Is there anything else you could do to cross train? Swimming, yoga?? Hope things get better soon.

poppywise, hope DD gets better soon!

kerc, glad you are feeling a bit more on top of things. Good that Erik and Leah were good together. It took DH and DD2 a long time (longer than with DD1) to get a hang of each other, and it did stress me out.

pumkinseed, I just did 2 basic yoga classes this weekend, and we did pigeon pose. Intense!

Everyone else, and

I am hoping to get back to running tomorrow. Acupunturist worked on my knee yesterday, so should be better. He also feels that I really need to be running (or swimming, but that is not an option for me right now) for my general health state, so one more reason to do it. I am thinking now that it was the steps that I did 2 days 2 weeks ago (while running) that did it to me knee. When I mentioned this to my acupuncturist, he said not to do steps as my body isn't strong enough for them now. Apparently, it is not, but I am feeling stronger so am a bit

Also, with this crazy GI thing that I have been dealing with, I sort of lost all interest in healthy eating, so think that I have gained a few pounds. This while I was planning on LOSING weight. Oh well, time to get back on the wagon.

Hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully I can report on a run tomorrow!

No run today. I was all dressed to go but then realized I was coughing like I had already been running and maybe it wasn't such a good idea. I wound up cleaning the house and going for a walk to the election poll instead. I have discovered that keeping my house ridiculously clean helps the asthma a lot - looks good around here, but what a pain! Vacuuming and mopping the floors at least three times a week practically eliminates my cough indoors. Good for my health, but good grief. Our dog is the main culprit, I think - she is a 10.5 year old golden retriever and she sheds constantly. I love her to bits, but I think she will be our last pet.

I am having a very difficult week. I don't think I'll go into any detail now, just apoplogize for not being around much. I have a feeling things are going to get harder before I feel any better. It doesn't help that the Conservatives just won the Canadian election At least it's not by much - the Liberal government was brought down in 18 months when it held 47% of the seats and the Conservatives have a minority government too with only 38% of the seats.

No time for personals since I am off to my PreK setting to do observations today.

Yesterday I did run for 15 minutes and walk for 15 minutes. I used the indoor track at the fitness center on base, and I really like it. It's a lot better than tripping on the treadmill.

I hope everyone is having a good week. Stay healthy!

patti...we know you love us so you just do what you need to do, mama. you are NOT a slouch...you endured a huge loss and are still doing so.

geo--I was going to say shoes until I read the rest of your post. I had the same problem but new shoes solved it mostly. do you go to a chiro? mine is adjusting my feet and it helps a ton with the extra weight, no pun intended my ds also went through a fussy phase but it wasn't dairy related...maybe oversupply due to growth spurt, because now he's fine and not as spitty. weird huh?

hi kpinny and welcome back to you and Andrew! great name!

ds has decided that although he's not as fussy at night that he is going to nurse the whole time between the hours of about 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. I'm so glad I can sleep while nursing this time around...it's making me still human instead of a growly beast.

I ran 4 miles on Sunday and 2.5 yesterday on the TM. And I have to say that I *hate* the gym's choice of TV channels and you don't get to pick. On Sunday it was my "unholy trinity" as dh called it of football, golf, and Fox News. but I got through it and learned some fascinating things.

Patti, good luck at work tonight. Thinking of you.

Just did a slow 30 min. Even did some walking, in the interest of listening to my body. Then came home and did some ab work. I desperately need some work in the that area.

shantimama have you considered having her hair groomed? We get our golden's hair clipped two to three times a year. It is absolutely fabulous. He is an indoor dog so it doesn't really matter in winter so long as we time it so we aren't doing three hour walks outside with him the month he gets it cut. We started doing it when our vet recommended it because Hunter was getting lots of staph skin infections from his fur not drying after a nice romp in the lake (in summer).

here he is no haircut and I don't have a photo of him with short hair but you can imagine he looks like a golden lab.
