I can't believe how LONG your kiddos nap! Jett will nap for about 20 or 30 minutes, unless one of us naps with him. Then, he'll nap for maybe an hour or maybe up to 2.5 if we're really lucky.

Our "schedule" is wildly variable, from going to bed at 8 pm, until close to 2 am and he's generally really awesome about that. If I had to pin down bedtimes and such, I would say:

Here's Jett's Day if I don't nap with him
0730 AM Get up
1030 -1100 nap
1230 - 1:00 pm nap
getting sleepy around 3:00 pm and naps until 4, if I'm lucky.
naps again, around 6:30 for another short stint, maybe until 7:00.
Then, either goes to sleep around 8:30 pm or naps then for half an hour and is up until 10:30 or later.

IF I NAP with him
get up around 0730
1030 - 1200/1230 nap with mama

nap again, maybe in the car for .5 hour or so during the day sometime.

afternoon nap, with mama? longer, or just 45 minutes alone, to estimate.

evening nap, around 6 pm or so, sometimes sleeps well, an hour.

maybe naps 8:30 and then bed at 10:30 OR goes to bed about 9:30.

Many nights, we have marathon nursing. Other nights, he hardly wakes.

To put it lightly, this baby has NOOOOOOOOO consistency.

(apparently, this baby was built to cosleep. honestly, I don't know HOW he'd react to mainstream parenting, but it wouldn't be pretty.)

My DS has always been a terrible napper. But, around 7 mon., he started taking 2 solid naps. Now, at 12.5 mon., he's down to one nap and I am lucky if it lasts an entire hour!!!

In the last week or two, Jett has been having a major increase in his personality. It's really amazing.

Oh yeah! Ds has always been opinionated and a bit spirited-- but, he's really coming into his own little person now and I love it!!!

Mine takes longer naps with me. He dropped his 3rd nap in December. Now he wakes about 7:15. Naps about 10am for 2 hours if I lay with him, 45 min - 1 hour without me. Naps again around 3:30 or 4 for about 2 hours with me. Then to bed about 8:30.
I love reading about what everybody's baby is doing. They are all so different (except the dishwasher which mine also loves). Bohdin is just a constant mover and destroyer. He leaves a path of knocked down things and scattered toys wherever he goes. Nothing holds his interest for more than a minute.
I loved that cat story. Very funny.

FaithNJ here! (infrequent poster, and mama to Dharma - 12/20/04)

Dharma's been babbling like a maniac for the last few months, and older moms (grandma types) said it meant she's going to be an early talker. They were right. Plus, the baby sign language seems to have reinforced the early talker deal. Her little personality is just "out there." She's a little joker with an attitude. She's also playing with toys more, and she loves certain books. (Try "Snuggle Puppie" by Sandra Boynton. D's physical therapist gave it to her for a graduation gift, and it's D's fav.)

Wow you girls were chatty today! Sadie is going through a big personality explosion too. She would love to pick up our cat, but he is too fast for her and is only 2 lbs. lighter than her anyway. He's big boned. She talks to him though, in a weird sing songy voice that she doesn't use any other time. It's pretty funny. She's pretty laid back for the most part, but we have been seeing a more, um, willful side lately. Oh yeah, and I see a little of mama's temper in there too. Uh oh.

Julian is sick

He has a bad cough that only seems to happen when he's laying down so we are not getting any sleep. I gave him some tylenol cough and cold for babies, and he gagged on it and threw up. I really don't blame him.
I've sent DH to the store for some johnsons baby rub. I know its not homeopathic or anything, but I'm so tired.

Shalena. I'm sorry Julian is sick! Max has a cough/runny nose too and hasn't been sleeping well either. thankfully he's pretty much himself during the day. I hope he feels better soon and you can get some rest!
Shalena and Jessica, I really feel for you. I am sick, though not badly...a sore throat, tired out, and kinda queasy. Now, Jett's sneezing lots and coughing lightly. Like Max, he's happy when he's up, but last night was REALLY rough. I can't wait for naptime today. I'm wiped out.

FaithNJ, Jett's been babbling at us and the cat, "reading" his books aloud (and kissing all the puppies in The Pokey Little Puppy while calling clearly, "DOG!!" over and over.) He also mimics us regularly. He'll take some word we just said and repeat it clearly, though it isn't part of his regular vocabulary. His current words are Dad/Dada, Ma/Mama/Mam, Dog/Gee (for DogGY) and he used to say "Ka" like the european Ford for cat. But he dropped that and just squeals delightfully at the cat now. And, last night, he used Up appropriately several times.

Gah, I had something else to say, but ???????
His babbles consist of some clear "words" like doogan, diggle, doogle, all said in a forceful, determined little boy voice. They all seem to stem from 'dog', I think. He also regularly says, "A boe boe boe" in this really bizarre accent. It's weird.

We make lots of car and airplane noises around here (did it pre-baby, too. We're not normal.) So, whenever he drives his trucks or remotes across the floor, he makes the vibrating lip noise that we apparently taught him to emulate engines.

Also, he puts his fingers to his lips and blows out with sound while twiddling his lips. I don't WHAT that's called, but it's really cute. He will just walk around and around and around doing that.

Right now, he's playing with the cat's feathers-on-a-stick toy. He loves to play with the cat, I think it's his favorite thing. Then, he gets wayyyyy excited and starts flailing about with the feather/stick toy, the cat gets broadsided across the head with it, the baby squeals, the cat looks a bit like, "oh boy" and then Jett grabs two handfuls of cat meat with glee. Then, tit for tat, the cat figures and CHOMP....never hurts him at all, but Jett wails....knowing he was "bitten." That's a common scenario around here. Geez, I loved hearing about the head lock and all with your kitty and Rozzie, that was adorable!!

Oh Lory, I totally feel for you about the one story to sum it up. Jett's into EVERTYHING. He has climbed onto the desk, the dining room table, the bookcase. He is regularly on top of the dining chairs, or on the back of the recliner and couch. When he was much younger, someone told me once that he liked to be held so much because his name was Jett and he liked altitude. Apparently, it still holds true. Similarly, my mother-in-law blames his name for his high-speed busy-ness.

Also, he has climbed the outside of the stairs, I mean, that little ledge that runs up the outside of the bannisters, where you aren't supposed to walk...where some people set decorations, etc. We have the stairs gated, so I guess that was his only option, in his mind!!!

For now, though, he's disassembling the box our hard drive came in.

oh I so hear everyone with the "dc is into EVERYTHING" refrain (except, you all have dishwashers, I am so jealous! we don't even have a laundry... ).

Wyatt is into everything, I mean everything. I re-child-proofed the kitchen cabinets so he he'd have his own snack cabinet and everything (the kid loves whole wheat crackers) -- and still he managed to get behind everything safe for him and open a bag full of lentils and dump them on the floor. he then played with them for 20 minutes while I did dishes, which was nice ...

He keeps sitting on the dog. hugging the dog. humming to the dog. kissing her on the face. trying to "help" her with her food. his favorite thing now is to give her her nighttime treat. we're being careful though, because dogs do get jumpy about their food, so her "food room" is off limits to him.

I was reading a book by jane goodall the other day and she mentioned that kids see animals as equals until the kids are around 10 years old. so they just think they're interacting with equals. so sweet.

sorry to hear julian is sick! wyatt was sick for about 2 weeks but is finally getting over it.

oh, and yesterday he didn't nap ONCE from 7am to 10 pm and remained cheerful and energetic the entire time. I am terrified that this is a new pattern.

rainy, I would KILL for a dishwasher. (drool, drool, drool)

Jett went up to the dog last night and took his bone from him, stuck in his mouth, made a horrible face and crammed it back in the dog's face. It was cute. We also have a REALLY good dog.

Jett is fascinated with the dog food and water. He used to race to the kitchen to see if it was down on the floor. If so, he would splash in the water and eat kibble and toss it around. Well, those desires fell by the wayside. He now goes, top speed, into the kitchen, heads right to the water bowl and dumps it. Mind you, it's nearly a gallon of water. This has happened three times in the last two days. You'd think we would learn.

Jett just fell asleep on me. I'm off for a nap.

dd eats cat food all the time. We keep the cat food in the laundry room behind a closed door but if you leave it open for a second she's chomping. She likes to make mud by putting the cat litter into the water dish, squishing it up, and painting the floor with it. She also just figured out how to flush the toilet. Good thing I get free water because she flushes constantly.
Well, that was short-lived...even with me trying to sleep with him. Man, I feel like crap.

I wanna sleep!!!!!!!!!!!
I am working on no sleep. We finaly got our power back yesterday afternoon and got things settled and made dinner from leftovers of eating out so much lately. The last few nights without power have been hard to sleep thinking out things and trying to hear DD in her room ( its upstairs at the other end of the house). Then yesterday, Niko starts itching and has a rash outbreak again so its a twitchy boy in bed all night. I got some stuff the Dr recommended today to try out on the itching at night. During the day its not so bad cause he keeps busy.

Then at 5 am DD wakes up with a fever, achy, sore throat and then throws up! I took her in and she has the flu! I just got her an Niko a flu shot after months of going back and forth. Last time I will do that! : I just knew it wasn't a good idea... So she is home on the couch with grandma and DH while I "work" a few hours. Then I'm off until tuesday to nurse her.... I just hope Niko doesn't get it.

Niko is a crawling and cruzing disaster. Whatever DD leaves out that she "loves" her is all over. He can pull up now and got up stairs so he is all over the place. We are going to seriously babyproof this weekend. Icluding the woodstove, which Niko loves, he will be a pyro in a couple years! He also loves the cat who is so good natured she puts up with the grabing, pulling and patting. She just goes behind the babygate on the stairs for a Niko safe area. His favorite appliance is the vacuum cleaner. He comes crawling when I turn it on and sits next to it, then he crys when I turn it off. I hope he doesn't discover our dish washer anytime soon!

well Evangeline seems to be dropping the morning nap most days, but she took one today, so we're not totally done.

Her personality is really shining through, she is bubbly, happy, loves to laugh, it's so sweet. My dad is here right now and he says she's the happiest baby he's ever seen. She totally loves the dishwasher too, not sure why. Wouldn't it be nice if these babes who love the dishwasher so much could actually load and unload them for us (putting things where they belong of course).

I feel like I've been having some preterm labor. Major braxton hicks and some menstral like cramping. Had a visit with the midwife today and an US to check on that low lying placenta. Nothing showed up. the US was normal, no sign of dilation and my placenta is no longer low lying, but it does seem like this baby is already engaged. She's turned already and her head is awfully low down. So maybe that's why I'm feeling all this pressure and cramping. We're only 33 weeks though, so we need to wait a few more before baby comes.
Eli also is fascinated with the dishwasher and wants to "help" load and unload it. He is nowhere even close to being able to OPEN it though! Yikes.

KM, unbelievable that you're about to have ANOTHER baby! I can't even imagine. Best wishes for keeping that baby cooking awhile longer.

I have an important question if you all could help me out.

We went yesterday for Eli's 1-year dr. visit, and he was below the charts for both height and weight. He said we couldn't tell much until his 18-month visit, but by then he'll know if he wants us to see and endocrinologist, or if he's just going to be a little guy.

He was 27 1/2 inches, 19 lbs. 5 1/2 oz.

Can you guys please share with me what your baby's measurements were at the 1-year mark? I just don't know what to think about this. TIA!
Jenelle, I don't know what Jett's measurements were exactly, but he's not a whole lot bigger than that. My mama gut says he's growing just right. If you're the same, I wouldn't think twice about it.

Is the doctor using a formula chart, or does have the right WHO chart for breastfed babies? (I would be really surprised.)

Here are a couple of links:
THE CHARTS

WHY THE WHO MADE THE CHARTS
http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns...owthchart.html

I definitely wouldn't fret about it. Jett goes to Texas for his surgeons' check-up next week. I will have height and weight then. 1 yr. 3 wks old.

poor max!

so on top of having a cold and i'm suspecting his ears are bothering him because he keeps pulling/scratching them, now he has a big shiner. he was playing and hit his face on the edge of katie's train set box/bench and got a huge goose egg under his eye complete with a (very shallow) cut across the middle. i was able to get the swelling down with ice and minimize the damage with some arnica gel, but it still looks pretty bad. katie was really scared too. she had a dream a couple nights ago about max cracking his head and got really freaked out when she saw his face. i think she was screaming louder than him. she's such a good big sister and so protective of her baby brother. plus they have this crazy intense connection that is always just leaving me completely speechless.

at least his eczema is under control! i don't think i've updated about his eczema in a while, but we've been having amazing results from cod liver oil and permeability factors to heal his stomach. his legs and arms are healing really well and the scarring is almost gone. the big ugly patch on his hand from his wrist to his thumb/index finger is reduced to a tiny scar and still shrinking. his face has been flaring up a little, but nowhere even close to how it used to be.

jenelle,
max is going in for his 1 year (more like 13 months) next week so i can let you know then, but katie was born big (9lbs, 21") and was petite at 1 year. I can't remember her height, but she was 18lbs at 1 year. I just remembered, I can go check on her height later because I have copies of her medical records from when we switched peds. i'll let you know, but it doesn't sound like anything to worry about. i have a friend with a 4 year old that is 25lbs and 35". She's just petite. and as for katie, she's now a string bean. around 35lbs and 43" at 4 years.
