I made my own cloth pads!!! I payed over $70 for Lunapads and decided I would test my sewing skills and make my own. I haven't sewed since I was 12!
They came out pretty well. I used flannel. I made 6 pantyliner pads, and 6 reg pads with liner inserts. For the inserts I used 4 layers of flannel, then a fleece layer inside. They are so comfortable!

Here they are:

Those are really pretty. I would like to try my hand at making some. I'm a little nervous though. What keeps it from leaking through to your underwear?

They're surprisingly absorbent! I tested them with water first. The water didn't soak through to the bottom layer. TMI: menstrual blood is much thicker than water, so I assume there would be even less of a chance to soak through.

You should try it! I just bought the DivaCup, so these pads will be a back-up and for night use.

How do you make a pad with liner inserts? If you feel up to it, maybe you could pm me the blow by blow on how you made them. I'm not quite sure how to make them. I've made a doubler before, but that was just cutting to a shape and layering a bunch and zigzagging them together.

I didn't make any pads with liner inserts. Instead, I am putting snaps on the top of the pad and bottom of the liners so I can just snap them in. I thought this made more sense because I could just change the liner instead of the whole pad.
They're pretty easy to make. I am NO sewer by any means. I just zig-zag stitched the outside of the each pattern. I put two flannel pieces back to back for the pads and for the liners I did 4 layers of flannel (it's thin) and two layers of fleece in the middle.
It helped me to buy some already made pads first, then I studied them and tried it out on my own

Good luck!

Heading to the sewing store for some fabric to make mine too. I am getting fleece for waterproofing- imo pul and nylon is noisy! I may do that for night time pads since I am a bit of a soaker at night. I also want velour for the tops. I think that would be really soft.
