Jumping in...

I found out yesterday that we are expecting our 3rd child - a TOTAL surprise. We were not trying. We were actually trying to avoid since I have had hyperemesis and depression with both of my previous pregnancies. I was pretty upset yesterday, but am doing much better today. It helps that dh is excited about it. I plan to contact my midwife now to see if there are any preventive measures we can take. If I can manage to keep the m/s under control, I think I will be okay. I'm really hoping to find some good natural remedies here on MDC and receive support from other mamas in the same boat.

Congrats to the rest of you!

Congratulations!

As far as the depression, there is one natural method I've heard about here. It really grossed me out at first, but the more I learned about it, the more I thought "I think I might try this on my next one."

The thread is here: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ating+placenta

At first I pictured eating the placenta raw-which sounded nasty to me. Then they said that it's traditionally (as in a 1000 yr old tradition in most societies) made into a stew for the mother to eat over a postpartum period. Then they said that you can dehydrate it and make it into vitamin type pills. Everyone who's left a testimonial had PPD with previous pregnancy(ies) and didn't when they tried the placenta stew or pills. Check it out and tell me what you think.

To think that I used to think cloth diapers were gross! Look how far I've come on the natural trail!

Interesting! The only problem is, my depression happens during pregnancy. It's usually triggered by the HG, though.

Hi Kellie and congrats! We are expecting our 3rd also. I can definetely see why you would be apprehensive about this pregnancy. I do hope that you will find some way for this one to be much, much easier. I'm already finding this pregnancy to be much different from my first two, so here's hoping the same thing for you.

Congratulations!

I'm there w/ you on the depression. I had severe depression w/ DD. As soon as I got the +, the doc took me off my meds cold turkey. Big mistake. I got so depressed, by the time I saw the m/w for my 1st tri checkup, I hadn't eaten in 2 days and had lost 20 lbs. She had the doc put me back on the meds, and I did great, until about a month before DD's EDD, when the doc thought it would be a great idea to try to take me off again, gradually this time. I got to about half my regular dose and started having problems again, so he finally decided to put me back on the full dose and leave me alone. No more problems. Go figure.

I wish I could be med free, but I'm only mildly funcational sans Lexapro. DD gets what she needs, but I could go for 2 weeks w/o leaving the house or taking a shower. Good luck w/ the natural stuff. I really hope it works for you.
