humidifier help needed

i posted this in health and healing too.....

I think I need a cool mist humidifier for DS. He coughs a lot at night without a humidifier. Right now, we have a warm mist one. I think it's making the paint peel, and if it's that moist in there, it can't be good for mold, etc. I've also heard that cool mist is better. Is this true? If so, why? Anyone have good brands to suggest? What's the ideal humidity to avoid nighttime coughs related to dryness/postnasal drip? Any other suggestions here?

thanks!

My dr. told me to shoot for 40-60% humidity with a cool mist one. I don't know if one is better than another, though, and I worry about mold as well. I'll be watching the replies you get...!

I bought the cheap vicks humidifier. It is the warm one. I add eucalyptus and tea tree oils in there each time we use it.

The cheap ones leave crap in the water bin but it says it is normal and ok.

I wouldn't leave it RIGHT against the wall, that would probably be bad. Change the water daily (even if it doesn't vaporize it all).

We use ours when we have the heater on. The heater just dries it out inside.
