Update on the Doula situation

Well, we finally got a response from the doula. She did send back the last half of her fee, but is refusing to refund the deposit, citing we "abruptly dismissed her" and "once the on-call period has begun the deposit is forfited". I think our only recourse here is to file a complaint with ALACE and that will probably be it. The local doula association does not seem to handle complaints, they are just a support organization for doulas. So, I am going to contact ALACE and see what they say. At this point it's really not about the money, it's about someone explaining to her how wrong her behavior was. She obviously doesn't get it, and I am afraid she will do this to others. A doula has a calling to go above and beyond their own personal comfort level to meet the needs of another, and I really don't know if she has that in her. It's too bad really, we need good birth educators out there!!!

Is she ALACE or DONA certified? Just thought you might need to file with DONA.

From what I recall, you didn't "abruptly dismiss" her ~~ she complained of too many obligations and agreed that it would be best if she not attend your birth.

I would MOST DEFINITELY file a complaint ~~ :

Definately file a complaint! The whole thing still steams me. Ihope someone gets through to this woman...you just don't treat clients like that.
