breat feeding/breast reduction

Thread Starter
hi, has anyone been able to breastfeed after having a breast reduction? I had a reduction 15 years ago and was told i'd have an 80% chance of being able to breastfeed. At the time, i didn't care because i was just a young adult who was sick of back aches, red bra marks and rude comments from the college boys... but now i'm wondering if anyone has any first hand or second hand experience/info.
thanks so much,
marcy

The Mothering Mag had an article on this last year. It seemed to have some very good information. You could search the website for a copy.

Have you tried getting info from La Leche League International? They publish everything having to do with breastfeeding, and are especially good at helping with unusual circumstances (in my case, breastfeeding multiples). I would check out their website, and if you live in a urban or semi-urban area, contacting a La Leche League leader for more info would be a great idea. Most medium to large cities (even some rural areas) have LLL groups.

....I was curious, so I went and did a search. Good news!

This is a great new book published by LLL called: Defining Your Own Success: Breastfeeding After Breast Reduction The review is posted at the above link, and you can connect to the rest of LLL from that main address: www.lalecheleague.org

Best of luck! With some help and research before your babe is born, you'll be all set to go!

My SIL had a breast reduction two years ago and just had a baby. Her doctor told her upfront it was hard to say if or how much she would be able to because everyone is different. She was able to produce milk on one side but not the other. And when the milk did come in it was pretty fickle would come one day but not the other. I think everyone is different, good luck.
