Are you allowing video?

Are you going to video your birth? I never wanted to but a friend recently mentioned that they did video it just for her. A few months after the birth she watched it (by herself) and said it was really empowering and filled in the blanks. She then got rid of the video because she didn't want anyone else to see it.

I still don't think I will do it. I don't think I will stay relaxed with a camera on me, but it is a cool idea.

We did with DS.

Had the support person for DF(one of his best friend's who happens to be a woman and has had two children herself) do it..we did not video early labour but I wish we had.

She basically did it off and on during the pushing stage and was very very discreet...she shut it off during the vaccum insertion, turned away during the epsiotomy and stopped recording shortly after he was born as they thought there might be complcations. Through all that you never actually see me except from the side.

Will bring the camera with once again and have the Doula's record...thinking that maybe if labour starts while at home this time we can do some early recording as well.

It a old camera that I borrowed from someone so the sound and picture isn[t the greatest and always has to be plugged in as the battery does not work but I am happy to have it on tape for my own viewing, once I was able to watch it a few months later...it really helped fill in some blanks.

No pictures or video at my birth. (Unless Tara and I have a dual waterbirth )

I'm not comfy with pictures, and close ups of my vagina aren't my thing. I might get some laboring and prolly some after-birth high pictures, cause I totally won't care by then.

It's funny, cause I'm not modest at all, but I'm not into having pictures of myself taken very often.

No videos. I don't mind pictures, and dh will be taking pictures before labor and definatly after labor. I'll try to remind him that I'd like some candid pictures of me IN labor. (just not the pushing phase thanks )

I am in awe of women who film their whole births. I just cannot do it. I have this phobia of my anus. No really! Stop laughing. We all have an anus, and I totally don't care if someone shows me a picture of theirs in the throes of their birth...BUT, I don't want a picture of mine taken..and I don't want anyone seeing mine. (and if they do see it, they are under instruction not to ever mention it or let me know. ) I guess I'm weird like that. I got over people seeing my vagina during birth. Hell, don't even think twice about it really. But don't get NEAR my anus at all...

We taped on and off dring DD's whole birth and have graphic shots of everything (although there was nothing unusual or complicated). It took me months before I could watch it fearing the worst. When I finally did, I couldn't believe how tame it all was verses the thundering chaos that was my perception at the time. I honestly felt embarrassed by my birth until I saw the video. Watching it made me really process it with a clear mind and that's when I became empowered by the experience.

We wanted to tape DS's the same way but given the speed, all we have is video of the bathtub wall from where DH tossed the camera at the last second. The audio is all there, though, and listening to it does the same thing as watching DD's.

I highly recommend taping it. You can always destroy it later but you'll never get another chance to recreate it.

Yep. My 1st was video and film. My 2nd, well, let's just say it didn't turn out so well even though we tried. It's funny to tell now but for a w hile I was really bummed. I have film pictures, they just happen to stop when his head comes out. This time, my film camera is broken, for which I am sad, but I have a digi cam and a video camera all ready to go.

Namaste, Tara

I'll definitely have still photos as DH is a great amateur photographer. We've got an old video camera, but I don't know who I would have operate it. I'd love to have video, though.
