16 year old birthday ideas?

My daughters sweet 16 is coming up in March. We are trying to do something special for it. She is already getting a car-ours got wrecked, totalled, we bought it back, it'll work for her.

Since I am since nursing a little one, some of the ideas I had are out-like taking a trip or something.

We are considering have a big party, but that just seems like alot of work and money. I would rather spend all that money for our family, kwim? And make it memorable.

Open to all ideas...

What about a Mother-Daughter Spa day.. just the two of you..manicure, pedicure, massage..and then a nice cozy family party at home that night? her favorite meal and dessert..make it all about her.

What is her dream? What is she into? Help her to do that/those things...i.e. singing--get her voice lessons or record a cd horses--go horseback riding or get her a saddle clothes--take her to a sheshe boutique and let her pick out an outfit writing--help her send a manuscript of her work to a publisher

Something important to her will be the most memorable thing because you not only noticed but you were there with her for it...

Perhaps give her a budget. "we're going to give you $250 for your Sweet 16 party and you can spend it how you wish". She might want to go with friends to a spa, or spend the day at the mall with her best friend, or buy herself something great, or throw herself a party. Let her decide what to do with the money.

I need ideas for a 16 yr old boy. I know his dream is to go to Shilitterbaun in New Braunfels, Tx, so I am thinking, maybe? His b-day is at the end of July...I still have a lot of time to think and prepare.

When my oldest dd turned 16, we had a surprise party for her at a restaurant. We invited all her best friends (about 10 or 12) and I set up a menu so that the costs didn't go out of hand. We assembled them all about a half hour before she arrived and went through an elaborate ruse to get her there without her knowing in advance.

She loved it, and had a great time. Our whole family went as well, so it was our party, too.

Now I have a ds about to turn 16--and no idea what to do for him.
