Just a question!

I've tried to do a search on this topic, and can't get what I need. So I'm gunna ask... can anyone tell me what is so bad about regular skin care lotions/creams.. etc? I mean what chemicals are in them that arn't great? I am currently using a mix of Dove products and Burts Bees. Does it have something to do with buildup? It being absorbed in the skin over a period of time? Any links would be great. Just trying to get some info together!
Thanks!

My thought on using 'natural' products vs 'chemicals' is that hopefully my body won't see it as a poison-who knows what it can do in the long run.

I also avoid petroleum products, not nesc because petroleum itself is bad, people in Eastern Europe sit in it to help with arthritis, etc, it's the altered, petro-chemicals that worry me, I don't know what do they do to it to separate all the parts.

I had a similar thought the other day after returning $48 worth of body lotion (xmas gift) at a pricy department store. I exchanged it for something a little more practical. I was wondering how much more special the Clarins hand and nail cream is than say, Burt's lemon butter cuticle cream. I think it has to do with how you feel when buying it. The Clarins counter is so pretty and the woman at the counter is usually freakishly friendly, while the kid at the health food store is usually looking at me like I'm a frump juggling a baby and telling a nine yo that he can't open his bribe, um, treat until we get in the car.

Here's a link where you can look up the ingredients in your shampoo and other toiletries: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/browse_products.php

I started off wondering the same, my main concern at the moment is getting rid off all products with Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It is in most everything, soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, not to mention most household cleaning products. It is actually a skin irritant they use to produce lather.

If you switch to burt's bees, you probably don't have to worry at all about anything toxic in them whatsoever. I haven't heard anything negative about them. I haven't examined dove exclusively but I'd venture to guess they have ingredients they shouldn't. The skindeep url someone mentioned up there is awesome and is how I started to learn about this stuff.
