My Mw is out of town for the week so I had to see her partner on wed, she is insisting I have a US next week, so now I an completly freeked about somthing being wrong, I got this far without a US and I am due the day after US is seceduald. I almost wish I would go into labor early so i wount have to have US, but what if there is somthing wrong she is saying I am mesuring the same for the last 3 weeks, My mw had not mentiond she was woored about this, I had mesured 36 cm and now I am mesuring 35, 5 think the baby has droped into my pelvis and it is making it hard to mesure. I mentiond this to her and she blew me off. I think I will call my MW on mon when she gets back. I also have one Hell of a ear ache, and i have to go to a doc today becuse it is geting worse liqid shots outy of my ear when I blow my nose and discharge is pink and chunky, I think I may have blown my ear drum while sleeping on tusday night buy snezzing maybe. Mw looked in my ear and told me to call doc and that thay would put me on antibiotics( I dont like antibiotics when not PG and realy dont whant them now) I told her this she said ok we will see, then as I was leaving she said " tell me what antibiotic thay have you on next week. ok so that is my vent for now, I am sure to have a new one after doc apontment today.

Not much to say about the antibiotics (as I'm unfortunately on them right now and have much the same idea as you -- don't like to take them even when I'm not pregnant), but as far as measurements go, I've read in any number of books that measurements during the last few weeks often change as the baby's position re: the pelvis changes. This shouldn't be new information to a MW. Measurements can change, too, when someone new does them -- I had to see a sub for a couple appts. mid-pregnancy last time while my dr. was out of town (learning a new manipulative treatment for my pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel syndrome -- I LOVED that dr.). The sub got *much* smaller measurements than my own dr. got, and had to call in her supervising dr. for a consult. Scared the bejeezus out of me before he told her that she wasn't finding the top of my uterus quite right and showed her how to do it. Lo and behold, suddenly I'd grown a couple cm!

From what I know, fundal height isn't an exact science. It can change depending on whos doing it and how. Even cervical checks can be different depending on how big the persons fingers are.

Remember, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Just tell them you are uncomfortable with having an ultrasound and you would like to wait until there is a reason other than fundal height to do one.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, especially at this stage. I don't understand exactly why she would insist on the US? I've measured 2-4 over at various stages of this pregnancy with no concerns from my midwives.
Did she tell you what she would be looking for?
As for the antibiotics, well, I hate taking them when I'm not pregnant, much less pregnant, so we're in the same boat there!
I would check w/your regular midwife before having the u/s and if you haven't already, find out exactly what is concerning her.

I don't really understand her point if you aren't even getting the u/s till next week.

IF you don't want an u/s, don't have one. They can't look inside your belly if you don't show up or if you don't lift up your shirt.

I am def going to call my MW on mon to find out why exactly it is soooo important I have a US. I am going to see if she will just cancle it. I dobt I will make it to the US date anyway. but it has me worried about somting being wrong YKWIM. just jitters I guess, heart beet and movement fine. no other probs I have been eating realy well. so I am def calling on mon. I did go to doc yesterday for the ear thing, and she was all for no oral antibiotics if it was just an infection in the ear canal, but of course it is my ear drum, so I am on a realy low dose with only one side effect losse stools like in the last week of my pg i am going to notice that I have beeen asured that these are safe for the little one. The good news is sence I never take antibiotics thay started working right away, and after about 3 hours I could actuly get numing drops in my ears( ear was swolen shut before that) well I am of to clean the house I have been igroring sence wed. Thanks for all the suport guys, It realy helps to know I am not alone in my views on these things, and gives me courage to stand up for myself a little more.

Taking probiotics while you are on the antibiotics & for a couple of weeks after should help with the GI issues they are causing. Antibiotics kill both the good & bad bacteria in your gut, so taking probiotics helps to replenish the good bacterias. You can buy them at any health food store/Whole Foods/Wild Oats in the refrigerated section.

Feel better!

You have my sympathy regarding your midwife situation. I ended up working with my midwife's clinic partner to deliver Carys and, to be honest, it was a pretty bad relationship. The back up midwife is the polar opposite in personality to the woman I've been working with all through my pregnancy. The appointments I had with her were stressful and left me feeling very unsupported. And there I was in weeks 39 and 40! Her attitude towards my questions and concerns was either fear mongering or dismissive depending on the situation. She likes to be the expert and doesn't like to be questioned, I think. Anyway, I had to deliver with her and it made my labour a lot more stressful. Sure, she was competent and knew what she was doing. And I was fine with that as long as she didn't open her mouth. Because pretty much everything that came out of it annoyed the hell out of me.
