January declutter challenge-we did it- we got rid of 9966 items!! - Page 6

I am so not counting but I know beyond a doubt that I have met this already. I am so excited. I have all the stuff from the kids rooms that went to trash or charity; a recent clothing purge; restructured the homeschool so a LOT of boxes / parephenalia with that. WOOT. FUN

So going to work on this this weekend. We are moving back home and everything is out of place. Definitely a good time to sort crap. I'm so tired of the piles of mail, newspapers, and magazines. Living without all the crap the past two months has been so nice and relaxing.

Oooooh, me too!

I'm new to this forum, but I found this thread today after I spent all afternoon yesterday and this morning in the kids' room. I haven't counted each item, but I've 3 small trash bags full of toddler clothes and a huge trashbag full of toys that are going to GoodWill TOMORROW! I am approaching my 3rd tri, so I think that's why I got so motivated all the sudden... whatever, I'll take it! I took a quick stock of what the kids got for XMas and bagged the older, duplicate toys and also anything that the kids don't play with/has no sentimental value. I am amazed by all the stuff I've gotten rid of so far. My room is next, then the "spare" room... I'm sure I'll beat the 500 item quota for each room!

Just reading this thread's got me itching to do some more decluttering! WTG, Mamas!!

27 items yesterday, most from my ds' room. that makes 157. woo-hoo!! y'all are so motivational. you go, scrapdozer!!!!!
Was at 138 + 19 books (donate and throw away)= 157!

Let's keep up the good work! I still have lots to do, but I love this challenge. I'm thinking we need to plan a spring cleaning challenge, like each window you clean is worth 25 points, 20 points for cleaning all pictures in a room, 10 points per bed for cleaning/vaccuming/sweeping underneath, ect. I don't know how we'd all set the point value, but I think it would be fun!

Totals for the last 2 days:
Gone:
3 diapers w/ cracked pul - tossed
14 ickies from fridge - tossed
1 basket of papers - tossed/shredded/filed for taxes
13 expired pantry items - tossed

New total 65 items. It's going slow but it's still going.

Yesterday, composted:

1 dead potted plant, 1 vase long-dead flowers

Cleaned

3 drawers, filling a grocery bag with old birthday candles, spilled toothpicks, 9000 rubber bands, old toothbrushes, school papers, and other crud-

Donated

1 spaghetti sauce jar full of spare change collected from the bottom of the drawers

Returned to office

37 pens which wandered to our home via my husband's shirt pocket

I think I'll give myself 40 points credit - current total, 495

Thanks for the challenge, mamas. I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere!

I put my TP list on freecycle and have gotten rid of what I'll list as three items (several magazine and couple books) and am awaiting pick up on my vhs tapes and some odds and ends. I also got rid of things just doing daily cleaning cuz now if I see something that I don't just absolutely love and don't need, it goes in the garbage so I'll say I have about 8 items today. So 298. I hate weird numbers so before I go to bed I'll be sure to toss two items to give me an even 300.
I did not have much time to toss today, but I am up to 130 items. We have company coming next weekend, so hopefully that will get me up to 300. It is very motivating reading everyone's posts.

I tackled my bookshelves today. I am finally relinquishing my college textbooks, the last three I'd been saving because they were beautiful. I still find them beautiful, which is one of my guidelines (is it beautiful, does it improve my life, do I love it) but it doesn't meet the other two. Scientific informatoin is updates too quickly for them to meet any real usefulness.

I got ride of a lot of recipes books and information from my personal chef business, and the social work resources from the job before that. I hate giving information up.

Note to self: google is good.

Was 157 (yeah, I'm behind a bunch of ya, but I"m still going strong!)

70 towels/ect. taken to DH's mechanic shop!
19 misc. bathroom items (how do these things add up? I don't even know where thy all come from!)
3 misc. clothing items I'm not keeping for DD, into donation bag

I'm taking my donations in again today, to get them out of my house!

Total so far: 249

I still have alot to clean out, but I'm going in baby steps!
I felt so good about this weekend, but I'm only up to 149. However I cleaned out my recipe box and threw out 69 recipes. Plus, I got dd in on the fun by sorting through her school papers and only keeping "special" ones. That came to 42. DH doesn't think I should count individual pieces of paper though so I'll only add those in at the end if need be.

I have some stuff listed on Freecycle and 3 garbage bags of clothes waiting for collection. I'm anxious to see what my count ends up being after next weekend.

Well things have gotten a bit crazy around here & decluttering hit the back burner. I only got rid of 6 more things, for a not-so-grand total of 155. Hopefully things will calm down soon so I can meet the challenge....but I'm starting to think I might be.....

a failure.
Ilovelife- you are not a failure if you got rid of something! That is 155 more items than at the end of December. Your house is getting clutter free! Don't stress if your challenge moves into February. As the pp said...baby steps!

NEVER!!! Thats 155 items you do not need in your house- thats a major success. Just keep going...

As for me, I just came back from our vacation and we finally caught "Einstein" the mouse who dodged us for 3 weeks. Thats 2 weeks and 6 days what it normally takes to catch them thus his name. So does that count as an item??

Back to the challenge tomorrow!
