January declutter challenge-we did it- we got rid of 9966 items!! - Page 3

Another 10 random items so that brings me up to 220. I also have on my front porch right now in a baby bathtub about 12 books, 1 electric blanket that hasn't been used in about 4 years, and a few other items on my front porch so that I have to trip over it to get to the car, and a bag of clothes in front of the front porch (about 20 pieces) all to go to good will tomorrow. If I actually get them to good will, that will be abotu 40 pieces more. Hopefully I'll remember to stop at goodwill on my way to or from court.

I am so energized doing this. I can actually see the floor of our loft!

Oh and I am also sending a book out that I traded (and perhaps some tea)!

I'm so pumped! Now I'm sitting here, drinking some tea and in a moment off to indulge in Grey's anatomy (and put the kids toys away).

I'm in! Just yesterday I freecycled about 25 toys. I still have more to go too.

I'd say with cleaning out the fridge and the kitchen counter I'm up to about 50. I see no problem in hitting 500...we have too much stuff!

Edited to add that I also gave away 5 cloth diapers too.

I wish I had seen this so I could've counted the items we bagged up last weekend - 7 bags of clothes to donate. Saturday I went through and got rid of around 30 pairs of underwear and a dozen pairs of socks as well. (I'm slightly embarassed to say that I had nearly 70 pairs of undies in my drawer - that's just ridiculous, imo. )

I think that counts!!
Guestimate and keep going!

I still have to finish the other side of the playroom today and go thru the kids dvd to post here at the tp.

dh has to go thru his sock drawer. He asked me if a pair counts as two items He roasts our coffee beans so we always have fair trade coffee. He got some extra beans that he didn't really wants. When he was roasting the other day, he gave dd the small amount of beans and she played with them putting them in different containers etc for hours. So he said- 1 more item!

Day one:

126 junk CD backups and "bundled" software disks
71 magazines, newsletters, catalogs
37 chubby colored pencils my children haven't used for at least five years now
36 broken pens and pencils
11 store receipts stuffed in my purse
3 handwritten holiday thank you notes

284 my first evening. I went to bed feeling a little proud of myself, and thought I'd read a little, but my booklight quit on me. That makes it 4 broken booklights in my nightstand - why am I keeping them?

4 broken booklights--Gone!

288!

I need in on this. My only question is does it have to be out of the house? I have shelving unit in my attic that is designated "Yard Sale" because I plan on having a major yard sale this spring.

Maybe I'll keep two lists - one of items put into the yard sale and one for items gone out of the house.

I'm going to start with the fridge and maybe I'll be able to identify the funky smell in my kitchen.

My "prior balance" = 100

In last 2 days:
- 5 items I gave away have been picked up
- tossed/recycled 66 more items

So, now I'm at 171

Tonight I'm working on boxing up some items to return to my mom, and some items for a MDC swap. I really need to tackle the garage next ...

I'm in (wait till DP finds out )

What do I do with unused toiletry stuff (you know, shampoo, deo, soaps etc.). I guess I should find out if our local womens shelter would take them... my home needs a serious detox

I so need this. My mom is going to have a big garage sale this spring so I am going to make a big pile of stuff to take to her. Let it sit in her house until spring.

87 items today. i cleaned out the bathroom closet, the junk drawer and some odds and ends laying around. and i have about 50 more items to freecycle so as soon as they are picked up, i'll tally up those numbers and add em. that was easier than i thought!!!

I am so in on this. We were supposed to move two years ago and are still living out of the boxes that never got moved or really unpacked. Add to that, that dh did all of the packing since I was pg w/ ds and nobody in this house "officially" knows where anything is. And dh wonders why my ppd was so bad last time. Our main goal to manage my ppd this time is to have the house organized before the baby comes in May. Hopefully my morning sickness will cooperate and let me get something done. Too say nothing of the kids.

Epiphany has come and gone, so all the Christmas stuff is down and away. So let's get down to business.
Gone:
24 - happy meal/gift bag/stocking stuffer toys - trashed

Pending:
10 - stuffed animals that dd & ds agreed to donate - bagged

Running total: 24

Thanks for the motivation.

I'm in.

Actually I started to declutter b4 Christmas because the in-laws were coming (are still here for 2 more weeks. I got rid of so much clothing that I don't use and like 30 stuffed animals...
I go back to work in 13 days full time, so this is good incentive for me to get done b4 I start!
I think I could get a couple of hundred things from just my desk :

Tell me do completed projects count as decluttering? Like I had this pair of recycled longies that had been laying around for months and last night I finally finished them, including lanolizing. Or does it have to be something that you get rid of... in any case, I'm sure I'll meet the benchmark!

OK... I better get moving on this one! I'm psyched. What a great way to begin the new year!

I am really into this. Ever since I found out I was pregnant (I had the baby on 7/22/05 ) I've been on a cleaning binge. I had to stop for awhile in my third trimester and after Alex was born. But I am back into it now! I won't even list the absolute enormous amount of stuff I got rid of before he was born.

As of 12/26/05:

We dug out all my books from the attic. 12 paper boxes full. I couldn't believe I had so many! They are all going to the library for the used book sale. I bet I have 250 books here. I will count, I have to anyway for the write-off.

I also found freecycle and cleared out all excess christmas cards I was hanging onto, a bunch of unused formula coupons (to a lady who has triplets!) and some baby stuff we never even used.

A friend of mine who is due just took the baby swing, the infant car seat and about 100 size one diapers. We are using cloth mostly and I had way too many size 1-2 given to me.

We went through all our old computer games and gave away like 25 games to my brother. I actually use to have time to play games!

I just went through the living room for babyproofing (Alex will be crawling any day now) and am getting rid of 10 vases, several knickknacks, an old end-table and lamp. I have over 20 vases! And some of them are just plain ugly.

It is amazing how stuff sneaks up on you. And we don't even go all that crazy buying stuff. It just accumulates. Like the vases, most of them came with flower arrangements!

The kitchen is next... now Alex just needs to take a nap! :

Oh I hope I can count the 3 boxes of toys I boxed up 2 days ago! I havn't gotten them out of the house yet but if I do can I count that? I will probably count them all and then cut the number in half since some of them have numerous peices kwim? I am so excited about this, and dh will be even more excited lol !

I don't know if there is an official rule on this but I am counting the yard sale stuff. It's out in the garage and neatly boxed and labeled and waiting for Spring.

I hit 500 yesterday, well 602 actually. I tackled my desk which was just a mess. It's so nice to not have an avalanche of stray papers, reciepts and bills fall on me as I try to type! If I keep this up I think I'll hit 1,000 no problem. I can't believe all the stuff around here that still needs to be looked at. It's a small house but the clutter always finds plenty of places to hide.

I gotta do this. I joined one last year and didn't make it. I keep hanging on to things hoping to get rich by selling them
