So anyone just start labour with no signs before hand

looking for reasureance here..
Caved yesterday and was checked I am at a good 1.5 almost 2 cm. Cervix is forward and very very soft. Midwife says I am ripe and things are looking favorable..but we all know what that means diddly sqat Head is also lower then we thought we felt internally. She was able to push on the head.
She also feels that baby is a avg. size...me thinks this one will pop out light then DS who was 8lbs 10ozs that's always nice

I feel good that things are looking up though as I didn't get to that stage till well after 41 weeks with DS.

But my big fear is never starting labour without the aid of Pit...we ended up at the hospital last time and had to be induced I didn't want to go that route last time and I certainnly don't want to again. I am like most of you searching for signs that this baby is ready to make his/her exit all on their own. EDD is Monday and trying to squash the panic that that date brings. We discussed the fact that I would rather avoid a NST this time until the latest date possible(usually at 41 weeks)as the stress of it last time put me over as they always find something wrong which is always untrue. Thinking if I have to have ine wait until 42 weeks(I can go to almost 42 and half weeks with a Doctor's over the phoen consult but god knows I rather then make it that far.

Been inserting EPO and having sex to help make my cervix nice and soft and started some homeoathic treatments yesterday to help..as well as drinking my Mama Tea now none of these will help me go into labour but hoping when labour does happpen they will help move things along.

So far I have had BH this pregnancy which I never noted with DS and I also have had a few bouts with minor but real seemingly contractions(always at night)
Also have been doing a bit more cleaning then I noramlly do(is that nesting) Other then that no increased discharge or any other signs.
So all this to say have any of you go from no signs to labour..looking for hope here people.

Not me, but my SIL has had four children and that was her labor. Nothing, nothing, nothing, BAM baby comes hour later. With #4 though she went in after an office visit had declared her 3-4 cm and had her water broke. . .baby came hour or two later. She was worried that if she waited until she noticed labor that she would deliver in the car. I tried to convince her to have a home birth but her insurance wouldn't pay for that.

I think lots of people just start with no signs. I'd only had BH contractions with both of my natural births, and then, one day... contractions just started to hurt more and that was labor. And with the next one, one night, water just broke, spash :-)

Hadn't had any bloody show or puking or pooping or nesting burst before either of those.

With my first, I had no signs of labor, and then I had a baby No nothin. Dilated to 2 at 37 weeks. He was born one week later with no "warning" of an impending labor. I barely had any BH even, just a few randomly. I've been convinced that's what this labor is going to be too. No warning, just hits me. Still waiting on that LOL
Why exactly were you induced with Pit. last time? Because you made it to some date and someone thought you needed to be? If that is the case, then you really need to let go and relax and know that bodies really do go into labor and sometimes that happens when other people don't think it should. Babies come when they are ready, not when any doctor, midwife, or anyone else says they are. I have an affirmation card that says just that and it's so true. Something else: A lot of women who were induced are very worried that they won't go into labor and many times, that's what happens. They worry themselves laborless and end up induced again. You truly have to surrender to your body and let it do what it needs to do and have faith in your abilities as a woman. Your body and baby know what they need to do, even if they didn't do it on their own before. IN fact, women who were induced often have longer subsequent pregnancies for those reasons. They worry and wait and nothing happens and then magically it does and they are caught off gaurd because it didn't happen for them before. You will be fine, you just need to relax and trust yourself, trust birth.

Thank you Tara for writing that. I can totally relate to how ScotiaSky is feeling. I too was induced last time and I keep waiting for some sign that labor is coming. My OB has already talked about inducing (according to her I was due on Friday and she would prefer her patients not to go too far past their EDD, which I didn't know when I decided to go with her) and her talking about induction is really stressing me out. I'm trying to relax and just know that the baby will come when he is ready and the more I try to "make" him come (sex, walking, etc) will just stress me out more.

Thank you ScotiaSky for writing that because it just completely summed up how I feel.

My labour with my son had no warnings. I had a few BH but thats it. Nothing else, and then I woke up at 4 am to my water breaking and he was born that day. Also as long as you are agreeing to regular NST after a certain point and taking reasonable precautions, they can't make you do anything you don't want to do. I know doctors can put a lot of pressure on you but I usually find a well placed and polite version of "so is it legal to do medical tests or procedures that I haven't consented to?" can change the tone of things pretty fast, and usually in your favor.

I'd say my first labor started without much warning. Course, being my first I didn't really know what to expect anyway and it made it much easier. She was 3 days "overdue" and my water broke while I was sleeping. Not many BH or bloody show or anything. Just wham. Course, labor didn't exactly start after that either. No contractions or anything 10 hours later, so I was given pitocin... and the rest... was hell.

I think first time mamas tend to just go into labor without many signs of things beforehand. I hope that's how it is with me, cause I haven't had any signs of labor coming cept some BH's a few times a day. And I'm due in just over a week. Maybe your body is kinda like a first time mom, cause you were induced last time. Trust your body... it knows what to do. You will go into labor when you're supposed to.

Just a quick reply as I am having contractions...really hope they go somewhere.

Nope not Doctor said this is the day and this is what you have to do..my water broke at 41 weeks 4 days and after a 24 hour wait for labour to start I transfered to the hospital for an induction.

If you do a search on all posts started by me you can find my birth story...its a how to on all the things that can go wrong during labour.

Wish me luck been having them since 5ish and and they seem steady every 7 minutes or so although not very long course we don't have a watch with a second hand so who knows....
Hopefully they will pick up with the intensity soon so I can call the midwife and Doula's and let them know to be prepared...we also have a 40 minute drive so we have to think about that...

OOooh!! I hope this is it for you! I'm cheering for you. I'd get up and do a "go into labor dance' but I might break a hip or something Come on out baby!!! Keep us posted...or ya know, go labor instead {{{labor vibes}}}

hey - nope, I didn't have any signs at all beforehand. I just woke up one morning and was in labor. Yes, it was my first, but I really, really didn't have any signs before. I got bloody show a few hours afterwards, but not even any BH before.

Anyway, good luck - I hope this is it for you!

I feel so much better reading this thread. I have nothing happening. I've declined an internal..Dr will do one either this Wednesday or next ('if I'm still pregnant' they said, of course I will be).

No BH at all, maybe one way back two months ago after bending over too much to clean a horse's hooves. Maybe one last week, I'm still not sure what that was.

Baby is still riding REALLY high, not settled at all, I'm getting kicks up into my 3rd/4th ribs still and REALLY hard to breath. Can go for 3-4 hrs at night w/out peeing still...

So, maybe baby will just drop and come out all in two days or so, huh? That'd be nice, I guess. The 'impending labor' signs would also be nice though.

Oh well
