Icky day yesterday...

So yesterday I had my 1st wave of real nausea. Most unpleasant, since I'm emetophobic (new word for me!). I didn't actually throw up, but it was still way too close for comfort. I was sitting in the bedroom talking to dh, and all the sudden I was hit w/ this rolling feeling that went from the bottom of my stomach up to the back of my throat. And then I got the sting under my tongue. I spent about 20 minutes sitting on the bathroom floor in front of the toilet w/ my glass of Sprite, repeating to myself, "Please don't throw up. Please don't throw up. Please don't throw up."

Once I figured it was safe, I crawled back in bed and slept for a few hours. Dh was wonderful and kept dd occupied while I slept. But then he had to get moving since he had to be in Tallahassee 1st thing this morning. So I had to be up and mostly functional until dd went to bed. I felt like such a zombie.

Today is slightly better. No up close and personal time w/ the toilet. But I'm so tired. I couldn't get comfortable last night, tossed and turned constantly, so I don't feel like I got any real rest. Any of you herbal mamas have any suggestions? (BTW, I'm not a big fan of chamomille.) We're relatively new to natural living, and I'm still not sure what does what, as far as herbs go. Thanks...

Sorry about the nausea! You sound exactly like me though...my worst fear is throwing up! Luckily, I haven't been nauseous yet.

I would suggest some ginger. I recently bought New Chapter's Gingerforce. I haven't tried it yet, but I've had luck with ginger when I've been sea sick and such.

Good luck!!

Another Mama who hates to throw up here.

I've heard good things about ginger, and vitamin B6.
Another thing that's been important for me in past pregnancies is to make sure I'm getting protein OFTEN!
I cannot handle an empty stomache in the morning.

So what I do is just lots of snacks, each time trying to include protein. Make sure you snack right before bed too.
Something I've heard other Mamas recommend is having crackers or something right beside your bed that you can eat before you get up.

I'll add more if I think of anything else, but I hope that helps...nausea is NO fun!!

I have a lot of experience with nausea, unfortunately. So far I feel fine, but it's still early.

Things that sometimes helped me were ginger, vit B6 (50 mg twice a day) and eating something high in protein before going to bed.

I hope it doesn't get any worse for you.

I get relief from sucking on peppermint candies and putting a cool wet washcloth on my face.
Sorry you're feeling yucky. Mine is still gentle waves, nothing bad yet.

I'm sorry. I'm with you. Today was my first day of real sickness, too. I'm so flipping tired and the only thing that sounds good is bananas. I fear anything else will come back up.

I hope you feel better soon. I think this part of pregnancy is the hardest and lasts WAAAY too long.

If it makes you feel better, emetaphobics rarely throw up. They've done some interesting research on emetaphobics and throwing up and those stubborn emetaphobics have pretty much proven that most vomiting can be controlled. You'll find emetaphobics that will go 5-60 year stretches with out throwing up, it's very strange. You sound just like me. I always carry a sprite around when I'm dealing with ms. As you already know, I'm also an emetaphobic. Things that helped my during my last pregnancy (which was aweful) was cold washrags, showers, walking around the house, playing on the computer, crackers, sprite (teas never helped me) and doing projects that were detailed, like knitting or something that takes a lot of concentration. I wore the sea sick bands, but I'm not sure that they ever did much. Another thing that was weird is when I would finally get really scared and start to cry, my nausea would almost always go away. Crying helped almost 90% of the time but I have no idea why. Please be careful and take care of yourself. Many emetaphobics become afraid to leave their houses or they become anorexic, it's scary stuff. Hypnotherapy is also something to look into if you feel that you need it. Good luck and you can always pm me if you need to. Trust me when I say that nothing you could say would sound silly to me, I've been through it all before.

I was just at the supermarket and WOW that place smells bad. Every aisle, a new bad smell for me to smell and go "EWW." It was worth it to wander past the watermelon and go "Yes! Watermelon! Perfect! I want that!" I don't have strong nausea either, just sort of queasiness, but finding things I want to eat is hard, even when I'm hungry.

My yucky time is in the late afternoon, but so far I have held of the actual vomiting. The last two days when I have felt that muscle roll from gut to throat I have laid down in bed and relaxed all my muscles and it passed.

Today I thought I was going to be sick in the car on the way home from work but managed to relax and then lay down at home asap.

I don't know how long this will work for but I'm hoping.......

What is really bugging me is kind of thick saliva which I can't seem to do anything about no matter how much fluid I drink. I feel really concious of swallowing and just that makes me feel queasy.

Oh, that's me! I never thought of it as a phobia, though. The only time I've thrown up in more than a decade was during labor with DD, when I threw up twice. It is the thing I am least looking forward to with labor this time!

Just wanted to let you know that I vomitted all through my first labor and didn't even fell a twinge of nausea during the second one. There's hope.

Thanks for the support, ladies. It's so good to know I'm not alone.

Feeling much better today. I'm still not eating a whole lot, but I try to make sure there's some protein in there when I do eat, and that seems to help.

Let's hope this is the start of an upward trend. Keep your fingers crossed for me...
