Ginger and Morning Sickness

Thread Starter
I hear ginger is good for morning sickness. My favorite way of getting ginger is through a ginger mojito, but that is on my "don't consume" list now.

What are some good recipes or ways to get ginger? I was thinking ginger tea might be good, but how do you make that? Just cut up some ginger root and put it in boiling water?

Suggestions and experiences please!

This site says 2 teaspoons of peeled, grated fresh ginger root per cup of boiling water and steep for at least 10 minutes. I've seen a few other sites say to slice it thin, but grating seems much easier to me. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ugh...what a mess! I tried grating the ginger, but it's very fibrous, so I ended up w/ a big stringy blob and a bunch of drippy, squishy stuff left on the grater. I would definitely recommend slicing, or even a food processor (mentioned on the above link). Also, I had a slight scrape on one finger which burned like mad when the ginger juice got on it. No fun!

I, also, discovered I really don't like the taste of ginger. It smelled really good in root form and as it was steeping, but the tea really isn't up my alley. Maybe if I reduced the amount and mixed it w/ something else...I don't know. You can get it in capsules, too, though, so perhaps that's the best route for me.

Hope you have better luck w/ it than I did...

Try adding honey and lemon - that thickens it up a bit and makes it tastier.

I haven't done any ginger this time round; I've been drinking Rooibos with Orange for a while and now I find it soothing and it makes a change from water.

I have 550 mg ginger root capsules. Does anyone know about dosage? I haven't needed them yet, but want to be prepared.

The link I listed above says 3 capsules of powdered ginger, but it's not specific about the amount in each capsule. I imagine it's fairly standard, though.
