Power Outage...Hm Birth planned...

Hello Ladies,
I have not posted recently, but thought I would check in and mention something. Last night our power went out for several hours. We are planning a homebirth and my edd is this Friday. Our area is expecting several more storms back to back over the next few days. Just curious if anyone has delivered without electricity and if you have any suggestions. We do have heat no matter what. Thanks Ladies!

Well, if the heater to the birth tub was running on electricity, then that could be a bummer, unless the birth was rather fast. But as for everything else? I think it sounds nice, actually. You'd be required to do it by candlelight.

As long as you can keep the house warm, and have a flashlight handy I think it would be fine.

Amish mamas do it all the time around here Heck, I'd be ecstatic if we had no electiricity...less chances for someone toplay avideo game or something whiel I'm laboring Birth by candlelight is excellent, just have plenty available. The main "thing" you need is heat, so if you have that, you're covered. Is hot water avaialble should you want to take a bath or shower after birthing? Do you have foods available that can be eaten without having to be cooked (if you have no option to cook without power). IF all of your bases are covered, everything should be fine and dandy even without power.

Namaste, Tara
