Bills Proposed to Support Breast-Feeding Moms
Breastfeeding Issue In Legislature this Year

It's a natural act that's as old as man himself: a mother breastfeeding her child. But in Mississippi, it volates obscenity laws, and a woman could be prosecuted for it.

Evelyn Garner Araujo says, although she's never been hauled off to jail, she has been asked to leave public places while breastfeeding.

"It's the thought of what I'm doing that bothers them. All I'm doing is feeding my child," says the Jackson mother of three boys.

my dh, ds1 and friend with her kids were there too. I'm going to get a post up on the numbers/email/snail mail for everyone to write their reps. We need to do this before January 31...if there's not enough interest they'll throw it out. This has already been brought before and failed.

Thanks for digging this up Janice!

Also wanted to add there is a poll on WLBT.com about halfway down the page...asking 'Do you support the bill to legalize breastfeeding in public?'

Help us out if you don't mind...

WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Sorry I couldn't be there. I'm from Louisiana now, but lived in MS for over 20 years until I got married this past June. My family still lives there. We WILL be writing and calling our legislators there. Thanks!!!

Any suggestions on what to say in the email/letter?

Hmmmm... I'm thinking about telling Mark Formby that if he doesn't support this bill, I will be BFing in his Sunday school class when the baby is born.
