So, what'd ya do today?

Anyone else enjoy (and feel good) writing down what you do with your kids (and for them) in the day? If so, share here!

I'll start:

Today was a good day! We got up and ate breakfast, met for our morning prayer and story, then discussed our plans for the day. We did some chores, dd1 worked on a craft project, the older boys built with legos. I read a story to ds2 about reconciliation b/c he is preparing to make his first and we have been studying it. We played trains, uno, go fish, candy land, dd2 made homemade pretzels, ds2 made icecream, we made bread, black bean soup, did some laundry, lanolized a wool diaper cover, took dd2 to her suzuki violin class, played playdough, ds1 worked on his math lessons (he's got a tutor b/c he's preparing for SAT's), now ds1 and dd1 are at guitar lessons. Tonight I think we'll eat fresh bread, bean soup, play some board games, and hopefully I'll get a work out in.

So, what'd you do??

It's only 2pm here, but so far we've:

*Woke up and watched a little PBSKids (ds#1 really needs some low-key transitioning time. )
*Had a small phonics lesson with ds#1 while ds#2 drew on a white board. We wored with the /at/ and /am/ families - ds made words with letter cards while I told him ones to make (make "mat", now make "pat"). Then we made up two silly sentences and printed them on the computer to illustrate (I'm thinking of making our own phonics readers like this ... today's sentences are: Mat and Pat sat on a rat. Pam and Sam played with a ram.)
*Both boys played a Clifford game on the computer while I cleaned a bit.
*Took a shower (all 3 of us together) and played Rescue Heroes - there was a volcanic eruption in there we had to deal with!
*Boys played outside after their shower and ds#1 washed off my birth ball.
*Ds#1 and I made a few more words on the big white board with the /at/ and /am/ families; I introduced /th/ to him to spell "that".
*Had lunch together and watched "Elmo's World" at the end of Sesame Street.
*We cuddled on the couch while ds#2 pretended to nurse; then ds#2 went to his bed to rest (really he just dripped water all over from his sippy cup and had a blast!); ds#1 and I read 2 dinosaur books.
*Let ds#2 up from his "rest" and got out of the wooden train set and the wooden car garage for them to start playing.

Ds#1 wants to show dh his words tonight when dh gets home - and read him the silly sentences. I pulled out two BOB books and told ds that he is able to read them and surprise daddy. Eventually we'll make some merangue puffs to try to assemble into snowmen (ds#1 saw them on the cover of my Family Circle magazine and has been bugging me to make them), and make some lasagna for dinner. When daddy gets home, the boys all usually wrestle around and get any left-over energy out.

Let's see...

Ds, younger DD and I got up at 7:15 and I helped DD get ready for school, she was on the bus at 8:15.

DS cleaned his room while I checked my boards.

DS played some Zoo Tycoon while I took a rest (migraine).

When I got up DS did two pages in the WB his OT gave him.

We then woke up my older DD and watched Naked Science.

Next was lunch followed by DD playing Zoo Tycoon while DS played with his Dinosaurs and I read.

Younger DD for home from school and we had a snack then the kids played a game of Life-Bikini Bottom Edition and then older DD and DS played Pente while other DD watched Cartoon Network.

Then I started on dinner while the kids all watched HGTV.

We just finished dinner and I am about to play a game of ABC Bingo with DS and younger DD, older DD is in her room reading/writing.

At about 7 the younger two start getting ready for bed and I'll read a chapter of Peter Pan, a chapter of See You Later Gladiator, some of DD's WITCH book and a Dinosaur book or two while they have their bedtime snack. After that I'll tuck them in.

DD will start her lessons while I'm doing this then we'll do our reading when I'm done with her sibs. Tonight we have a lesson of Saxon, some Sonlight reading, a couple of worksheets for 4-H tomorrow and a spelling list. She also needs to write in her tree journal.

She'll be done at 9-9:30 and I'll read a chapter of Eragon and some Artemis Fowl while she drinks hot chocolate and has a snack. She's usually in bed by 9:30-10:00.

DH will come home somewhere between 9:30-10:30

DD stays up until 12 or 1 reading and/or writing in her room. When DH comes home she'll come out and say hello and he'll tuck her in (unless she was still up when he arrived).

We awoke at about 9am and had breakfest.
Worked on her art project in our guest/art/play room.
Went to Borders and hung out and bought a new Junie B jones book and also bought a book about the presidents and the states. dd wants to learn about the presidents.
Came home and had lunch
checked out our new books and decided that we needed a new picture book to read. So we went to the library and checked out a few Todd Parr books.
DD read them to me when we got home.
dd helped prepare dinner tonight and then we were off again to sunbeams
Sunbeams is currently going on as I write this. Its alot like girl scouts but without the cookies and more of god and nature!
We will return home to watch the new episode of LOST!

got up, had breakfast..the kids fav is Kashi Autumn Wheat ....washed dishes, Zac and I read about the Green Berets, Luke (4) beat me at a game of star wars chess...the real rules, not his rules (I must really stink at chess!!!) After being unable to sit still, Zac went outside and ran half a mile, Luke and I played Spaghetti Meatball Math. Then we had lunch and went to the Orthodontist, Zac got braces today. While there I posted a panic attack about Zac NEVER STICKING WITH ANYTHING...then for a consolation prize, we went to walmart where Zac bought a Lego Ti Fighter and Luke bought Spiderman for Leapster and a small Bionicle. Came home and both proceded to build to completion.

Now Zac is watching "Walking the Bible" as it is dealing with Pharoh's and Egypt.

Wow, that sounds much better than it felt like earlier today...this am I would have said it was a complete waste of a day, but I guess it wasn't too bad.

I'm loving these posts! Thank you!

Jen - my kids love HGTV too. We don't have cable but my mom does and they watch it there.

My 7 yo and 9 yo are downstairs right now doing a "make it and bake it" project. I'm trying to put the baby to bed but he's not buying it,

Woke up late.

Nursed.

Breakfast

Cleaned kitchen.

Yoga for Mama/Play for Dd

Snack.

Decided to forego formal "homeschool" (Waldorf circle and story) since we slept late, and went for nature walk. Jump in puddles, play in mud, pick up treasures, look for a suitable branch to be an earring tree for me.

My mother is on the walk. She tries to explain about the sun and clouds, and I say, the sun is sleepy and it's putting it's head under the cloud blankets to take a nap. My mother accuses me of being unscientific and I say yeah, and yea for keeping the magic in childhood. My mother is great but believes information is king, while I believe that imagination is king.
Lunch

Quiet time. I now discourage sleep. I write in my journal and Dd imitates me - and we manage to nurse at the same time.

Office phone calls, call to friend we haven't seen in awhile. Dd talks to her on speaker phone.

Call on status of frothing machine. It probably won't be coming until later, so we make our regular mostly macrobiotic hot chocololate.

Start dinner, to include Chinese scallion pancakes. Grain ground a few days ago. Mix, knead, eat dough.

Wet on wet watercolor with story, while dough rests.

Dough and dinner prep. Dd lets Dh set table because our long awaited frothing machine has arrived and I've said it's not being opened until after dinner...and dinner will not be served until after shower and pajamas. So she's getting ready for the bathroom.

Dinner. Nurse.

Set up and try out frothing machine. Dd has had another cup of hot chocolate so I'll let her stay up awhile to let it go into the toilet.

Try out different branches to make earring tree.

Clean up time.

Bedtime rituals, sleep.

Dh and I tackle the kitchen, that looks like I never cleaned it this AM!

Thanks for asking!

Wow, you guys do a lot.

Today dh took dd1 to the dentist. All day. In between the trip where they got sent away to a different office, and the trip where they sat in the waiting room for 3 hours, I nursed dd1 and read her some of the books she got from the library yesterday. During the day, I started putting together a page of Spanish computer game links for dd1, and did some housework and cooking, while stopping frequently to respond to dd2. Since dd2 is potty pausing, a big theme of the day was, "Poop goes in the potty" (with accompanying potty contents dumping and flushing ritual -- dd2 LOVES the flush).

On arriving home, dd1 told me about her day, featuring one good thing and one bad thing, nursed, and set the table. After dinner, she played some computer games (including the page I made ) and played on her rope ladder. She called her grandma and told a bunch of 4yo jokes. Then the whole family did the pencil prayer from In My Heart Room and watched India: Kingdom of the Tiger (dd1's choice from Netflix; she's into wild cats lately). After some grownup chat and down time, I read dd1 more books, and she made a stack of crayon drawings to decorate the wall over her bed, including 3 abstract ones meant to convey her mood (bored, tired, and hungry). During the spaces in this story, dd1 played with her Barbie ( : ) in some rather remarkable ways (for example, at one point Barbie was creating God -- "she just makes the shape of God with her body, and then God exists"...Barbie herself is Uncreated: "she just makes herself") and muttered little imagined dialogue scenes.

I enjoy writing down what dd (and I) do(es), but I tend to have trouble eliminating detail.

I lounged around and read and did laundry. I was online for a bit before Ds needed it. We got out Dd's new art stuff and played with it. We had spaghetti for dinner. Dd and I are watching a documentary called Country Boys.

Well, finally at around 7:30, we got around to whipping the egg whites ... both boys had to try to be in on the action. But, I knew deep down it wasn't a good time in the kitchen for merangue - much too warm and humid from having made lasagna for dinner - but ds#1 was so looking forward to it and I had continuously forgot, that I caved. He went to bed all excited because I told him we'd assemble and decorate them in the morning ... I can't even get half of them off the cookie sheet. They are flat, squishy, and just not right. I'm so afraid he's going to be so bummed in the morning that I already have a back-up plan:

After story time at the library, we'll drive to the grocery store where we'll buy marshmallows and decorating candies, and make marshmallow snowmen instead of merangue ones. I'm hoping he's okay with that ... otherwise, I'm going to have to pray that it's dry enough in the kitchen tomorrow afternoon to make a new batch of merangue.
