Traveling distance

I live out in a small town and I do not have many activities I can take my children too. I love the idea of attending a co-op. There is a huge homeschool community that is about 55 miles from me. There are starting a co-op semester that runs for 12 weeks every Wed. I could sign up for classes from 10 am to 2:30 pm. There is a big gym area to hang out and play and also a baby room when not taking classes. It sounds wonderful but it's just over 55 miles and would take close to an hour and half or two hours one way with traffic. My boys are 2 and 5. Would you drive this distance?

Personally, NO, not for a two and a five year old. I would just let them be kids inthe country until their interests lead elsewhere. Can you go just one day a week? That is only if you feel you or they need the social interaction. I don't do that much driving for a 9 year old with interests all over the board.

Are you bored? Do you need a change of scenery? I know winters are hard for us...spring and summer are oh somuch better!!

Good Luck, Sus

I would think over an hour is too far. But its your call. I drive my dd to speech therapy once a week that an hour away. Its the best speech pathologist I could find. And there is nothing near us besides the public library and playgrounds in the sun. We drive an hour once every couple of weeks to go to the arboretum. When we go to the zoo, once every coupla months, its an hour and almost 45min. Everything seems to be a long drive around here, too.

Do your boys have the chance to play with other children in your town?

If the kids have a chance to play with friends without the co-op, I wouldn't do it. But it is completely personal choice--I hate driving.

Yes, the classes would just be on Wednesdays for 12 weeks.

Not for a two and a five--take them to the playground, LOL. I drive long distance for gym but only every other week for my 9 and 7....
