Do you have to eat constantly?

For the past 2 days I've had to eat at least evey two hours or my stomach gets icky. I'm just waiting for full-blown m/s to kick in. The worst part is waking up at 2 AM with a nasty acid stomach. I can't find any foods that hold me through the night and nothing sounds appetizing at the hour. Any suggestions?

Yes I have to eat all day and night so my stomach doesn't get empty. When it does, watch out. The queasiness gets bad! Today was better.

See my 'comfort foods' list for what i tried. Adding to it that Tangerines and apples and pretzels have helped. Bagels toasted with a topping you like are good nighttime foods.

Yes, but for me it's not because of queasiness (yet, crossing my fingers and knocking on wood here ), but I get so dizzy if I don't eat frequently.
Probably alot from having 3 people to nourish

Yes! For quesiness and dizzyness. I feel like such a pig! The thing that tends to hold me over the longest is whole wheat toast with peanut butter and honey, along with a small fruit serving. I try and eat as soon as a bit a quesiness comes on b/c it sucks to force myself to eat when I feel really crappy.

I ate like that with my daughter, but not for my son or this one (which I believe to be another girl) so far.

With my daughter I kept saltines, gravol and ginger ale by my bedside, but I wasn't nearly as crunchy as I am now. I used to eat them so that I'd have something in my stomach when I started throwing up, because it sucked to be dry-heaving.

I found eating very small portions of food and grazing over the course of a day really helped my queasiness. Eat to your hunger, make sure you're really well hydrated and add in salt and lemon to taste. Helps the nausea.
You can also try ginger tea.

-Take about an inch of fresh ginger root, skin on, and cut it into little pieces.
-Boil it for 20 minutes in 6-8 cups of water, then add 1/2 cup lemon juice (fresh is best).
-Strain out the ginger chunks to use for later, they can be boiled this way quite a few times before losing their flavour!!
-Serve, and sweeten to taste with honey. This is an excellent nausea/morning sickness AND sore-throat helper.

A friend of mine who works in maternity says to eat salty crackers and lemonade to keep the nausea away.
I seem to want a lot of veggies but I can't figure out how to prepare them in an appetizing way, with all the nausea I have.
I find I get cravings for food and then when I have it in front of me I can't eat it. I see a picture of a taco in a magazine and I go crazy! I find I am wanting all kinds of sweet junk - gummy bears and stuff like that.
However, I eat lots of yogurt, oatmeal and pasta. I guess I should be nourishing more, no?

I've been the same way... except snacking hasn't kept it at bay. It seems I need a super full stomach not to feel sick. I have been trying to keep it to soups and such that are not too high in calories if I fill myself up. It's hard though.

I agree

I'm 10 weeks and at about 5.5 weeks I started to feel really crappy... I'm feeling better now but feel I have to eat constantly. I bring hugs lunches to work - 2 pieces of fruit, a hot lunch, a salad, cereal bars, etc. And that's after eating oatmeal for breakfast!!

But I eat throughout the day. I have found that the more I eat the better I feel. I have found I'm craving junk food but then after I have something I feel worse. I feel the best after whole grains and protien.

Unfortunately, a lot has changed since posting this 5 weeks ago. I can no longer eat or drink anything. I am on TPN (supplemental nutrition through a PICC line/catheter in my arm going to my heart) because I lost 10 pounds. I have not had anything to eat or drink in 15 days.

I can't wait for the day when I will be able to eat again!

YUCK, Kellie, you poor thing! Hope you feel better soon.

i had to eat non stop (even in the shower!!!) while i was preg with dd....with this one i stilleat a lot and i have already gained some weight, but i can go about 2 hrs so that is much better than last time...
for the first 20 weeks of my preg with dd i felt like a PRISIONER to food and potty.....eating drinking puking peeing diereah (sp?) and i was mostly too tired to move...much

i feel great this time compared to last time!!!

i have not puked yet...i have been pretty yucky at times, but i am always able to get it under control with a snack or a nap...

i also suggest taking a walk everyday...
your body can detox some of the hormonal buildup in your system better (preventing puke) if you have a little work out in the fresh air...

it has really helped me.

but i say keep bannana beside the bed with a jar of almond butter...crakers and TONS of water....

i can make it to the kitchen this time around, but that is still my midnight snacks of choice.

man i eat all the time. at least every two hours. also at 2am. i hate waking up to eat. but i will just throw up on the bed if i don't.

i am 9 weeks prego and have gained 4 pounds. i am not too worried about weight gain, but that seems like a lot. are there twins in there?
I had gained 4 pounds by 9 weeks and was concerned too, and then at 12 weeks I was startled to see that I'd lost those and was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I've been eating well enough, so I think it was just water weight I gained and lost (and maybe the extra Christmas weight coming off as I got back into my normal eating and exercise routine?). I did know I wasn't having twins because we had an ultrasound last week -- one adorable, wriggly baby! I'm sure things will be fine for you too, twins or no!

I ate CONSTANTLY for my first 12 weeks, especially for the first 11, when I felt sick if I didn't eat. Now the sickness has subsided a bit and I'm back to eating normally. It'll get better. Hang in there.

Ya know, I'm either repulsed by food, or I'm starving. The only thing is that one minute I'm repulsed to the point that even thinking of food makes me sick, then I'm so hungry that I can't stand it. Literally that fast. It's weird.

For the last few days I've been repulsed all morning, then eat like a hound dog afternoon and night. Me and Ds tore into some tuna salad--yummy!

Oh my goodness! You poor thing! I hope you feel better soon. That just can't be fun...

As for me, I have gained around 8 pounds. (I'm 12 weeks.) I am happy with that. I have yet to throw-up (knock on wood) but have had my fair share of nausea and migraines! : I was pretty thin to begin with, so the weight gain makes me feel good. I know that both myself and the baby are getting enough nutrition.

But I have to eat CONSTANTLY! It's not only that I will feel icky, but I actually feel faint and light headed/dizzy. I almost had to leave rehearsal the other night because I thought I was going to topple over! I always make sure to have a snack with me. I try to eat a fair amount of protein at each meal/snack. My cravings have shifted again. I am repulsed by the things I ate last week, and now I want sweet things for breakfast (cinnamon rolls!!) and decaf chai tea. Mmmm! But I am eating a very balanced diet. I feel lucky that I am able to eat a variety of healthy foods.

I hope everyone else starts feeling better soon

Just a quick update - I can EAT! After spending 4 days in the hospital with a blood infection possibly caused by my PICC line (very scary experience) I am finally feeling better! I think I have rounded the corner and my HG has really let up. I need to eat all the time again and it won't take long to gain back everything I lost. Now I just have to be careful not to gain too much.

bellaboo-how scary! I am so glad you are okay and better.

----------------

Lately I am woken up at night feeling downright STARVING! I can't believe this is waking me up and I have to eat something :. Throughout the day I also have to eat every so often or I get queasy. But night time...no matter what on most evenings I'm nauseated and I don't want to cook or eat anything that has anything to do w/ meat or spices .

I've never eaten vegetarian-but I just can't stand the look of raw meat before it's cooked and sometimes even afterwards. LOL, just typing this is making me nauseous. Any Vegetarian resources for a pregnant beginner. My DH is all for it-and my 16yo DD, well-she'll survive
