Binding on fitted...help!

I'm making fitteds and I want to finish with a binding. Kinda like Fern & Fairie or Fuzbaby does. But I have no clue how to do it.

I've been T&T. Would I just turn and then add a binding? How do I do the elastic if I add a binding? Also...how would I do the binding around a pocket on a pocket fitted. I know Fern & Fairie dipes are pocket fitteds with a binding, but I don't have one to look at. Any hints & tips appreciated!

If you're going to use a binding you wouldnt turn and topstitch. You'll lay the pieces together like you want the diaper to look finished with the WRONG sizes together even after youve put the elastic in. Its a bit trickier putting the elastic in because you'll only be sewing it to one layer of the diaper unlike when you tnt and it goes thru all the diaper layers. AFter you've done that, put the binding on, dont forget to stretch your elastic when you get to that part with the binding, if you forget to stretch it, your binding will kill your stretch. When you get to the pocket opening, binding will go on each size of the opening instead of over the opening cuz that would close it. Does this make sense? HTH..

You could use FOE--that's a binding and elastic in one step.

Stella does have the F&F diaper pattern up for sale now. I think she uses a twin needle to sew it on. Its sewn on one piece of the body of the diaper (the outer piece) and then you use a twin needle to topstitch it and secure it. I think you can cut strips of interlock or something really stretchy or else you may have to cut strips along the bias and sew them together (first cutting them into a parallelogram and then sewing them together to make your long strip of binding).

You can also look at www.diaperhyena.com also because I think I asked this question a LOOOOONG time ago when I was starting to sew diapers and Amy answered in more detail. Just search for "bound edge" or something like that. I'd link it for you but I've got to get going!

I'm a bit confused. You mean...you sew the elastic to one layer (which layer?) then add the other layers and sew them all together with the binding?

I think I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. I've only made one diaper and I want to try something like this.

On a fitted I would sew it to the inner body layer, but it actually wouldnt matter if it was the inner body layer or the outer body layer. Then you pin the layers together with the elastic all stretchd out ,then sew your binding on.

I think on some of the bound diapers the elastic is under the binding. I figure they add it to the seam allowance, then bind over it.

Also, for a pocket opening I would finish the inside pocket edge and continue the binding around the outside layer only at the opening.
