Anyone make a cover with coat-weight wool?
I am making (I use this term loosely as I've had the stuff for two years
) a cloak out of this gorgeous navy blue coat-weight wool--it is so soft and perfectly felted! I have a goodly bit left over after cutting it out (if I would just get off here and go sew it up
) and decided to make some covers. I used the Diaper Covers Deluxe pattern, the pull-on version (I can hardly get a diaper on DS, 11mo, much less a wrap, plus he thinks it's hilarious to undo the velcro). I couldn't get the elastic to work the way the directions say to do it (sew elastic to very edge, then turn down and top stitch)--when I top stitched, it was too loose. So I have some FOE and thought maybe it would work better, what with the weight of the wool. I sewed it up last night (my first time with FOE--not really so hard as long as I went slow) and the waist is still too big--it just fell off DS. The legs seemed to work ok, though. I am so frustrated!! I have now ripped out the waist 3 times (the first time I just thought I had bad elastic so got some new, still didn't help!). Should I just do a casing? Maybe the wool is stretching when I sew on the FOE? Maybe apply stablizer to the waist? HELP.
