How's This for Frugal? Making Soap from Chips

My grandma used to collect her soap chips instead of pitching them and then make soft soap from them, but I never asked her how she did it. Does anyone here do that? If so, how?

Thanks.

Add some hot water, oput everything in a jar, let it sit for a few minutes and then shake it up.

I find it easier to just press the last little sliver of a soap bar onto a new bar when you're in the shower(make sure both are wet, like at the end of the shower) and it sort of melds to the new bar and becomes part of it. No more slivers!

Dar - *I* do that, but dh doesn't. He just gets a new bar after new bar and I just don't use soap that much. It dries my skin out, I just use a washcloth and rub over my body. But I will take the tub of soap bits and do this.

I thought the subject said making *soup* from chips... I'm so glad to see you're talking about soap ~laughs~

I've pressed slivers together to make a new bar, but DH thinks it's silly. I haven't tried making soft soap.

I use the chips to go along with the kid's "homemade soap". It's just melt and pour glycerin, but we have fun time with it and even make this into a great teacher gifts every holiday time. The chips can add color and interest.

Here's a link to a "recipe" that uses grated castile soap. I would imagine you could substitute your grated soap chips for the castile soap.
