WooHoo!! (Intro and Snap Press Questions)

Hi ladies!
I used to be on the "diaper making circuit" seven years ago. Back when the main forum was MothersNature.com . For two years I made diapers and I sold diapers online as well. I had to work out of the house for 5 years (dh was the stay-at-home attachment daddy and other than giving up on a few of my personal ideals, ie cloth diapers, he did a great job of being a baby wearing attached fool!) and finally got to come back recently. I am so happy to be back being a sahm/wahm. Anyway, enough intro here! I am amazed, 6 years ago, to do plastic snaps you had to spend 1000s of dollars! I can't believe I am just now finding out that this has changed. Am I to understand, that instead of having someone else install snaps, or using snap tape, or using the cheap metal snaps, you can actually get the whole setup to do plastic snaps for under 100 dollars. Is this true?? Can you all tell me your preferences and reccomendations?

It is so! I bought my snap press and snaps from thesnapstore.com. I have been very pleased with the service I have got there as well as the product. Depending on how many snaps you start out with and the 3 die pieces and shipping, it will probably actually be closer to $150 when it's all said and done, because you'll *NEED* several different colors, yk. :LOL Anyway, have fun!

So what size did you start out with? Do you now have to buy all of your snaps from the same place? How about quality, is it the same as the real expensive ones?

Size 20 snaps is what most people use on diapers. That size also works well on most clothing. On little baby items, you might prefer size 16, but that's a personal preference. The quality is great! I'm not sure what you mean by the real expensive ones. From what I can tell, what I have is pretty much the norm in the WAHM world these days, and the snap press itself was only around $60 if I remember correctly. I believe you can buy snaps from most places, you just need to check with them before buying. Most coops and other snap stores will be able to tell you if the snaps they are selling are compatible with the press you own. From what I can tell though, most of them are compatible from one to another. I've only used snaps from TheSnapStore.com, however, so I can't tell you from personal experience. HTH!

All I meant, was are they as good quality as the snap presses that cost 1000s of dollars several years ago! Thanks so much for your help! I can't wait to buy mine!

I honestly have no idea if they are as good as the ones that cost 1000's of dollars several years ago. I wasn't in the diapering world until 2.5 years ago and at that time, these were just starting to become popular.

If they have been around for the past 2.5 years, and everyone is using them, I can only assume that they are as good as the ones that cost 1000s, back when I first started diapering. Too bad I missed out on this wonderful introduction! Thanks so much for responding to me. I have everything picked out to order and should be ordering it this week, if all goes well!!

It's possible that the thousand dollar ones from a few years ago were easier to use though- the one I have (from thesnapstore.com) takes a lot of arm strength to use, and with my FMS I can't use it at all right now.
