Which CD pattern to use.... hmmm..

Being a newbie, I am certainately picking all you experienced cd making mamas!! I sure do appreciate all your advice and am learning from all of you!! Many Thanks!!

I have almost completed my second diaper and I am realizing the pattern I am using (the ottebredesign) just isn't working for me. There are so many other cd patterns out there, so without trying them ALL.. I figured I'd ask!!

So yet again... another question...

Which diaper pattern do you use that you ???

You could aways make your own pattern. Take what you don't like about that pattern and fix it as best you could. I think that is the pattern that i started with and i changed the front so there were small tabs that are easyer to sew. I made the back tabs a little bigger. and fixed the size to fit my son. All it takes is a little tweaking to get what you want.

I *have* to have a pattern because I can't even cut a straight line without following something. Anyway, I purchased the Very Baby pattern from Here because I liked the way it looked and it has both front snapping/velcro and side snapping/velcro options. There are a couple of different diaper patterns for sale on that site and they are pretty inexpensive compared to others I looked at.

I use the Very Baby fitted pattern and the mama bird free pattern.

I also really like the Very Baby patterns...I have both the AIO and the fitted and they are both great. Darling Diapers patterns are great too, and she sends them in a PDF file so you don't have to wait for the mail to arrive!
Good luck choosing!

I love the Darling Diaper pocket fitted pattern www.darlingdiapers.com . They are sent by email so no shipping charge, you get them super fast, and you can print unlimited copies for yourself. I think it is $8, which for an idiot like me is super worth it.

They make great trim pockets. My ds is in a medium at 13 months and 21 pounds and has plenty of growing room. I have made fleece and PUL AIO pockets with it, and also cotton fitted pockets. I really love them and use my own Darling Diapers 99% of the time on my little guy.

I am a beginner sewer so it was impossible for me to draft a pattern. I would rather someone else do the work. My first diaper was pretty ugly but usable, and by the second diaper they were not only usable but cute! Now I think my CDs look as nice as the WAHM ones out there. And they fit as trim as a sposie.

I think the VB pattern is a great place to start for a beginner. The diapers come out looking good no matter what!

Thank you all for your responses... I definately knew that the VB pattern was going to be mentioned!! Darling Diapers is new to me... so I will have to check them out! Even though I am an avid sewer, I am new at making dipes and I am not comfortable making my own pattern right now.

Since my lil peanut isn't here yet... it is very hard to "test" a diaper on anyone! I am using my sons cabbage patch doll and winnie the pooh stuffed animal... it's quite hilarious!!!

Again... so many thanks!!

I learned how to fold and snappi a prefold using a stuffed mouse toy that had been given to us at a shower. The great thing about practising on toys is that they don't wiggle!

I had cloth 'diapers' for my cabbage patch kid when I was little. Having made some XS diapers for new babies, I'd say that a cabbage patch is just about the right size for newborn diaper sizing.

I too have the VB AIO pattern and love it. I started with a pattern that I heavily modified from the internet. The internet pattern helped me with sizing and then I changed it because there were some things I didn't like about it. I still use my own pattern when making my pocket diapers because my current draft is a side aplix closing pocket that fits our DD great. I'd never drafted a pattern before and made a lot of testers out of cheap material to work out bugs. The diapers I make from my own pattern are still favourites and rival the VB's we have. So, it is possible to have very little experience and to still get good results. It just takes tenacity and more time!

if you just want to try out a different pattern that is easily accessible, try the KWIK Sew pattern #2062. It's the only pattern i have used and works great. i make the tabs a bit wider than th pattern b/c it fits a bit better that way. i also just use this pattern ot mac covers, just make it a litle bigger than the pattern. you should be bale to find it anywhere that sells KWIK Sew patterns.

Great question!

I've heard great things about the Darling Diapers, Honeyboy and Very Baby patterns.

I was going to get a VB pattern but with the shipping cost and the exchange rate, the AIO pattern was going to cost me $30 some odd dollars! Wish it wasn't so expensive to get just the pattern! I was dissapointed but now look forward now to ordering and trying out either the Darling Diaper or Honeyboy pattern. I'm leaning toward Darling Diaper.

I just finished my very first diaper. I used the Darling Diaper AIO and it is AWESOME!! I am so impressed with how well this diaper came out and how easy it was to follow the instructions and make. I made the side closing with Aplix. It is by far the best diaper I own. I am going to be making a whole bunch now that I know I like it.

I wish I'd seen this thread b4 I posted my own. Sorry to all of you who had to double post!

I do like the HoneyBoy (although it is thick, in my experience) directions. I do NOT like the KwikSew pattern. Someone offered my tips on my HB pattern. I'll try them out & if I don't like the results, I'm going to try the darling diapers, I think, mostly b/c it is so affordable!

Good luck choosing!
