Bummi cover question

Who has used Bummis covers? I saw a cotton bummi at Value Village the other day but passed it up because it looked way too small. My mom was over today and brought some stuff that she had (her and another girl do up boxes for Africa) and she brought the same bummi I had seen (well, another one actually since she had bought hers awhile back) and another brand of cover in the same style but with a PUL outer. The Bummi one is cotton - I assume this has been treated with something for water resistance?? All it seems to be is a mesh inner and then the cotton outer. The other cover is the mesh inner and PUL-like outer like this one but a different brand.

What is the purpose of the mesh? Just a bit of a stabilizer rather than just using a single layer of cotton or PUL? The printed (cotton) Bummi is really cute but I'm assuming (from everything I've read) that I can't just take a piece of cotton or poly-cotton and call it a cover.

And what is that mesh called? It's like the stuff that lines swim trunks.

cotton bummis covers are very cute. BE CAREFUL though! They wick. You have to be on the ball and change fast when baby wets. The cotton covers have a hidden layer of nylon just like the original covers. I think the mesh (which is just regular athletic mesh... you can buy it everywhere... Wazoodle sells it pretty cheaply... I made a water sling from it... works great!) is to increase airflow and perhaps to help keep a layed in diaper from shifting.

We have trouble getting the bummis original cover to fit. It just doesn't work on our baby. We also have a hard time getting the cover to cover the whole diaper and then we hardly ever change fast enough and the whole thing leaks. We're not fans. We much prefer the bummis super whisper wraps which are a whole other ball game. We use what bummis cotton and bummis original covers we have as EMERGENCY only! (and I mean that with capital letters!)
