Sage Marie arrived Jan 10th at 7:28pm. After much denial of being in labor, I finally conceded to leave work at 2pm. I took the train to my sister's (she was my labor support person) and called my husband. I told him not to come yet because I wasn't sure if it was just prelabor. I told him I would call at 5pm, so he should take a nap (he had been up til 3am the night before fixing our bathtub)...At my sister's labor quickly progressed it seemed going from every 10 min to every 5 mins at 45 sec each within an hour.. I still wasn't convinced but my sister thought we should call midwife. MW said to come in since I was group b positive and needed the antibiotics...Hospital was 10 min from my sister's...so we left at 5:15pm. on the way over, my contractions started getting stronger, and my water broke..wasn't expecting it because took forever w/ my son...not prepared for it, so car is dirty now. I was now in a ton of pain. Meanwhile, we couldn't get in touch with dh, he was sleeping right thru the calls. Got checked but was only 3-4 cm. Couldn't believe it because in so much pain. Got in jacuzzi tub. I kept having the urge to poop...At some point, I needed to get out. Needed help from sister and mw...At this point didn't want my sister to leave...Rechecked and was 7cm. Still thought I had a lot of time ahead of me...Moments later thoiugh started having urge to push...Tons of pain..MW kept telling me to focus and envision cervix opening...well, at some point i start pushing...she had to get in my face and yell "julie, you need to stop, otherwise tear myself open"...i regained focus for like a second, but then another contraction started, and i started to push..this time there was no stopping, but i was at 10cm...ring of fire, but she was out in like 2 sec... time of birth 7:28pm, but i thought it was midnight because of all the pain...i was dillusional during...have to say was best birth experience though. wonderful mw...poor dh though, he slept thru the whole thing because i told him to nap...expected a much longer labor...but it worked out well..he woke right after and had missed 63 calls (bro in law kept calling him)..drove in and brought ds (was at my sister's house with her kids - my sister watches him while i work).
anyway, most empowering delivery - no drugs, no interventions. unfortunately didn't get my two bags of antibiotics, so had to stay mandatory 48 hrs afterwards..
Sage did great though...cried, and latched right away..low blood sugars though, so had to pump..the pediatrician wouldn't let me just nurse, and i refused formula...illinois is really strict with their policies.
Sage is now home, and we are doing great..doing some tandem nursing at night for my 3 yr old ds, yet not as tough as i thought...he's loving his sister too...makes it all the better...
