snap placement problems...

I'm not good at making diapers, I have so many questions!
Anyways, how do you all know where to place your snaps so they dont come out uneven? Mine look like I put them on while I had a blindfold on! They look terrible....
NOW, what am I doing wrong!

I've seen that some have a template, but haven't been able to wrap my brain around doing that yet. My fitted patterns each have a snap placement guide though, so if I'm making from my own pattern, so far, I just adjust that guide to what I'm working in.

I figured out approximately where they should go by marking a dipe while on ds & then made templates for the front & wings, using a ruler to measure out placement & a hole puncher to make holes in the template for marking. It took me quite awhile to figure out where they should go, but it's down to a system now. HTH
