What kind of DIPS do you make for your toddler?

We discovered that ds loves to dip his food!

I need ideas for what kind of dips I can make for him. He is 18 mos.

So far, he will dip his waffle or little pieces of cereaal into his yogurt.

Also chips and tortillas into guacomole and beandip....

The only dairy he gets is yogurt,and we don't feed him peanuts,almonds,etc..oh, and no soy either!


Any ideas???

my guacamole lover also likes hummus and baba ghanoush, and lebni (yogurt cheese) w/ garlic (pretty close to tzatsiki). he pretty much uses the dipper as a spoon, tho'.

My 19 month old dips vegetarian sausage, waffles and sweet potato french fries into maple syrup.

Marinara is a good dip, also, for cooked eggplant & poultry.

Chocolate or carob melted is a good dip for fruits.

I make hummus with white kidney beans instead of chick peas as they prefer the texture and we go through lots of it. I also make a dip consisting of salsa, beans in tomato sauce, green onions, red peppers and sometimes grated cheese. Serving that with organic corn chips or pita bread for dipping makes a great lunch!

I make a hummus with chickpeas, toasted walnuts and orange juice.

I also make a sald dressing that my son loves dipping veggies in. It's 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp Udo's Choice, 1/2 tsp dijon mustard, 2 tsp balsamic vinegar and a minced green onion. Oh, and sesame seeds. He loves this one and has been having it since he started solids - back then the veggies were steamed but before long they were raw.

We dip into lentils

We do lentils, tahini oat sauce (recipe by Cynthia Lair "Feeding the Whole Family), humus, and yes, I'll admit it . . . ocasionally organic ketchup (nothing better for burgers).

I just made this today and DD loved it and she is not a spinach eater otherwise.

Spinach Hummus
Handful of frozen spinach cooked in a little water
can of white beans
1-2 cloves garlic
some tahini? maybe 2-3 Tbs (sorry I never measure just go by taste)
tsp or so of ground flax seeds
a teeny bit of salt

Put cooked spinach in the food proc. or blender w/ it's cooking water and whirl it around til it is smooth. Add crushed garlic and the rest of the ingredients and proc. til smooth. Add more water if it is too thick. It comes out a great green color!! I made it thin and used it as a dressing on my salad! MMM
