Felt cookies and dough too. I was totally inspired by chichona's gingerbread cookies and dough. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh, I wish I had someone to make this food for. No kids myself and all my nieces and nephews are overseas. They would be light for shipping, though. hmmm...

For a shopping bag, couldn't you just make a felt bag with straps? I have so many good memories about playing house.

Someone made me brown "paper" grocery shopping bags out of a brown felted wool sweater:

With pre-cut sheets of felt: use 2 sheets for the big sides, then cut a third sheet in half (the long way) for the narrow sides of the grocery bag. Line a fourth sheet up for the bottom and cut to fit. Cut 2 handles out of the fourth sheet also. Pin together & sew together with a zigzag stitch on the outside of the bag --- to keep its boxy shape. Add handles.

How well does felt food hold up? Dh is insisting it will look frayed and worn within days but I'm really wanting to try some felt food for dd.

My two year old is NOT gentle. He frequently takes bites of his felt food (and comes away with nothing but a fuzzy taste). After 8 months of play it looks the same as when I made it. Felt really is STRONG. I made mine out of eco-felt (it's craft felt made from recycled plastic)...so it's pretty cheap to start with. Plus I made sure that there are no unfinished edges. You don't NEED to finish felt, but I liked the look of the finished edges and it made it a bit stronger. Also, you can assure your DH, felt does not fray.

Yeah, it holds up really well. I make mine out of wool, with cotton embroidery floss. I use wool sweaters from Goodwill. The stuff I made for DD for Christmas of 07 does not even look used. It is just really durable and pliable.
