How often is your newborn awake ?

Don't have much time to post as much as I would like although I do keep up with the reading and want to send some congratulations to all our Mama's who have recently given birth.
What a lot of girls and such nice names..some were on my list. Glad to know that everyone has such good taste.
Now to my question
DD seems to sleep all the time. I can't recall DS sleeping that much.
I have to wake her to nurse everytime.
She nurses well she already has gained back her birth weight and more. Has plenty of wet and dirty diapers and is not jaudiced..so why is she sleeping this much. Anyone else's babe sleep round tge clock. She may be awake for 10 mintes at a time at most..is this normal for some babies?

Yup! Piper sleeps almost constantly. I know for a fact that my other two did not sleep this much. They were always awake and needing to be rocked and soothed.

Lily sleeps a lot during the day, but seems to have her days and nights confused. She is up and alert during the night! During the day she is only awake for brief periods, but nights she is very awake and ready to look around.

Ian is also a sleeper!!! Such a change from his wide-awake, screaming sister (when she was a babe)!! He is waking to eat now, but he almost always falls asleep again immediately, usually at the boob. He will nurse for up to an hour sometimes though, so I guess that would count as his awake time!!

NAK- ditto on the sleeper thing! Enjoy as it won't last forever! This is my 1st 'sleeper' and it is making our transition from3 to 4 a bit easier.

I think Soraya sleeps a ton too. I seem to remember ds being more alert. ScotiaSky, I felt like I was reading the daily bio of my babe in your post. Maybe they're just hibernating due to the cold weather?

Maeve is like Willowrose's Lily. She slept a lot yesterday and the day before, but for those nights, she was awake for the whole first half of the night and only settled into real sleep after 3 or 4 am. I am very sleepy today!! I am going to try to keep her awake a little more during the day today, in the hope that she will get into that sleep mode a little earlier tonight. I don't know if that logic works for a baby this young or not.

I've got a sleepy baby too. She's sleeping in my arms right now. She's only awake for very short periods during the day, and I usually have to wake her to nurse. At night she wakes up every 2-3 hours to nurse.
