38 weeks and very sick

Thread Starter
I am so worried. I am 38 and a half weeks and have been having lots of prelabor signs and lots of contractions. And now I have a terrible cold. I can't breathe well (I already couldn't! and now it's worse) and I am shaky and so weak. I am worried that if I go into labor like this I'll just go to the hospital and say "Just put me under and take the baby out please." I am just absolutely sapped with this cold. Any one have any reassurance that maybe this won't be the end of the world? Or suggestions for what I can do? I am trying to rest although with a cranky 2 year old that is not going well and I'm taking vitamin C and garlic and drinking lots of water. Any other ideas?

I have a theory that babies won't come while mom's sick...
Keep pounding your vitamins - have you tried Emergen-C? My family swears by it ... you mix it with water, I think it absorbs faster than pills.
Can you get friends/family to help w/ the toddler? Don't be shy about asking, you need to REST!
I just dealt with a stomach virus, then sinus/upper resp. infection in the last couple weeks, so I know where you are.
Good luck!

No suggestions, just hugs. If there was ever a time to plunk your toddler in front of the tv, it's now, so you can get your rest.

Hopefully going into labor will purge this cold out of your system, kind of like labor tends to "purge" everything from your body. Maybe? Hopefully?

I am so sorry to hear that you are feeling this way! I don't have advice either, just wanted to echo the pp to say that I think using tv or whatever you have to use to please your toddler while you rest is a good idea. We are not a tv-watching family, but in a case like that, I'd go to the library and get a little stack of videos for your two year old and consider it a nice treat. Take care and hugs to you. I hope you are feeling much better soon!

Being sick sucks no matter what. I crossed my fingers for months hoping I didn't get sick for labor. I hope you are feeling better soon mama!
