further to nothingbutbreast's thread about pocket fitteds and ambertsc's reply to me

So you recommend the darling diaper pocket fitted pattern? I was just looking at it again this morning. I'm hoping to draft my own pattern but thought it might be helpful to have a "commercial" one as well. I really want to do up a lot of PUL-outer pockets but will have some diapers that require covers too.

Also, about handknit longies. Reading old posts last night it was mentioned that 100% acrylic works just as well or better than wool for some people. I probably have more acrylic in my existing yarn stash than I do wool, or at least some wool/acrylic blends. I realize that longies from that might need to be washed much more often (though I'd probably wash my wool ones every other time too) but I'd be able to just toss them in the washer and dryer since acrylic won't shrink and a blend, if there's enough acrylic, won't shrink very much either. I tend to like a dense fabric so the longies wouldn't have an overly loose gauge. Anyone else here do acrylic knit soakers? Wool would be warmer (if I needed them for warmth - ie: pj bottoms) but I wouldn't have to handwash acrylic. I also live in a pretty small apartment and don't have any room to lay stuff out to dry where a certain 13-month-old won't get into it.

I have read that as well but i don't know how well it will work. There is alot of stuff that you can read that doesn't work. I have read how people wash the diapers if they live in an apartment and it seems doable. One lady would take a bath and put the dirty diapers in the water when she was done to soak.. You can get a drying rack that will fit inside your bath tub for less than 10 at walmart. We have one of these for when we are unable to hang clothes out side. It takes about 24 hours for a load of clothes to dry on it. But other than that i don't think i am being very helpful. If you find out if that works let me know cause i am going to make so covers outta wool and that way i have more to look for at the thrift store.
I have seen some poeple saying to have to felt wool and others that say you don't so i don't know what to believe half the time

I think it's just personal preference.

Lots of people love 100% wool because it's natural, breatheable, antimicrobial, etc. I've never made an acrylic soaker or longies, but I know people who have and are very happy with them (especially the washer and dryer part)!

When I hand wash my wool, I either hang them over the shower curtain rod or a metal towel rack to dry (since they are so small, I don't find hanging them to dry really distorts them or anything).

I use acrylic yarn to crochet soakers and longies with. The probem i've found is wool is much more soft and stretchy so I'd do a size bigger with Acrylic for that reason. Acrylic last my DD all night with a prefold andd oubler and she's a supersoaker!
Also Ifound this SOFT yarna t walmart called simpley soft It is acrylic and SOOO soft And under 2$ to boot

I have longies crocheted by Grandma and Mom that are that Wool-ease thread (which is 20% wool and 80% acrylic I think). It works great! It does not absorb moisture, but it can last all night as a cover as long as I have a decent fitted underneath it. Sure, you need to wash it every few times, but that is no big deal since you can just throw it in with your dipes or baby clothes. I prefer wool since I only wash that every month or so, but the acrylic works great and is cheap.

BTW, the Darling Diaper pocket fitted is great! I will try to take pics of a few of my cute little fitted I have made with this pattern.
