Leg openings: ruffles, turned in, casing? Lemme pick your brains!

My plan is to make some wool covers and lots of mini-diapers (with elastic around the leg openings) to lay in them. I'm having trouble determining what kind of leg opening to use, mostly because I don't have much experience and I don't know what works best and why.

So, my descriptions will not be very understandable, so please refer to the pictures in the links (all to Jessica's sewdiapers.com site).

For the wool cover:
I could do the ruffled edge like the VB fitted diaper pattern
Or the turned in way, like the VB AIO pattern
Or I could sew a casing, just like the one above, only topstitched around the elastic, like this VB wool snugwrap pattern

I know the biggest issue with turning in or out usually has to do with wicking, but since this is just going to be two layers of wool, I don't think I have to worry about that. I'm just hoping the mini-diaper will keep the messes off the wool anyway, but if it doesn't work sometimes, I want the best defense against messes getting on clothes. Which brings me to my other question

How should I sew the elastic for the mini-diaper? This has me sewing the elastic inside the diaper (not on the seam allowance) to create the ruffled effect, just like the VB fitted diaper. But is that going to be the best way to keep messy runny baby poop contained in the diaper, and not on my wool cover? Or would it be better to sew the elastic to the seam allowance? I'm not really sure how that would work on a mini-diaper, seeing as how it doesn't really close by itself. Would it still turn in? I imagine I'd have to cut the bottom layer wider than the top to get it to turn in, but would I really want to mess with that? Would it really make a difference?

BTW, I don't actually have any of these patterns, I'm just planning on tracing around some of the diapers I have and/or drawing my own. But I love the sewdiapers site for the ideas. Who knows, I may end up purchasing the VB diaper pattern anyway.

i made some fleece covers and used 2 layers and turned at topstiched so let me tell you what happened to mine. I used the same pattern that i use for my diapers i just made it about 1/2 in bigger all the way around and it turned out to be really i mean really bulky and ended up being smaller than the diaper and i have no clue how that happened.
I would recomend to what i am going to try next time i am going to take one layer a little bigger than the pattern and put the FOE around the edges

I made the mini diapers just as described on the sewdiapers site and they turned out great. When you sew the diaper into the diaper body as illustrated and serge around the edges it creates little ruffles, I think they really help to keep the messes of your covers. The other option is to add gussets, there are instructions here http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/inde...aby/index.html She also has instructions for making your own diaper patterns. The gussets are a little tricky, but once you get the hang of them they don't take any time at all. I would do the mini diapers as instructed with the blind-stich elastic ruffles and add gussets to the wool cover. Gussets are easier when using FOE or wool binding.
I hope that helps!
