Fav diaper pattern?

Hi! I'm looking for a new diaper pattern. I've got KwickSew's (really sucks) & HoneyBoy. HB just seems to be too bulky, but I do love the directions. In fact, I've sewed the KwickSew pattern w/ the HB directions & like them much better.

I just can't afford to buy 2 or 3 more patterns looking for the "perfect" one.

What is your favorite?

mine is the Very Baby fitted. I use the basic pattern to make pockets, covers, and AIOs as well.

I have the HB too and have been thinking about trying to trade it for a VB. I'm making 2 more today from it, so we'll see how it goes. My fav so far are the ones I got from Cyndigran on ebay. But, I only have 2 patterns and I've only sewn 4 diapers.

I really like the VB fitted pattern, it's so versatile. I also like the Poquio Pants pattern a lot, even though it's designed for EC use I've made regular diapers with it and love the shape. It is pretty spendy though.

I have the VB AIO pattern--it is easy, doesn't require a serger and you can make trim fitteds and pockets out of it as well (there are excellent supplemental tutorials on www.sewdiapers.com) --you just have to remember to read the instructions! I'd heard good things about it before buying, though I haven't tried any of my creations out as yet...

I really like the HB pattern...liked it even better when I took about 1 inch out of the width though Just trace your pattern on paper, fold it in half and then fold over 1/2 inch and tape it down. Then if you want to cut it out of cardboard again just do it with the paper pattern

I have the VB fitted pattern, and it doesn't actually fit my DS as well as I'd like. But I drafted my own and THAT fits him perfectly. Here are some easy instructions for drafting your own pattern to fit your child (note: at the time of this writing, Webshots is down for upgrades, so you might need to try later). Although for the waist measurement - I found my diapers needed cross-over tabs when I went by that, since my DS has a milk belly that pushes diapers down below his waist a tad. Also, he had just started walking, so could have slimmed down some, so I didn't want his measurement at that time to be the tightest setting. If you're in a similar situation, you might subtract an inch or two from the width. Try your pattern out on $1/yd fabric first to get the fit and general shape worked out, then try it on real materials. I had to shorten the tabs and big time widen the butt (mainly because my width was greater than the rise because DS has a big waist).

Drafting a pattern is not that hard really. I was scared to do it at first, and then after reading that tutorial and seeing the pictures, I realized how easy it could be!!!

I just looked at the website and those diapers are cute! Both the pocket and the AIO. But I'm curious as to how they print out. Do you end up taping a few sheets of paper together? That's a pretty good deal that's going on now, 3 for $20.

Yes, you cut and tape the pieces together. Takes a little bit of time, but so does tracing the patterns for VB and others! So either way, you have pattern prep before using it. I have the Darling Diapers Potty Dance Pants pattern, and the nice thing is that if my pattern gets ripped/shredded (by a boy who will go nameless... ) or lost, I can just print out another copy!

Thanks for all the input, ladies! I've been debating all week over the darling diapers pattern. I mean, 3 for $20, how can you go wrong? But then I think that the point of this is to save $$, so I hold off. I did try the HB again, taking out the 1", but it seems soooo small now. (I made a nb.) I tried the Mama Bird free pattern & I actually REALLY like it! & I hate FOE. I made it in about 2 hrs, inc. making the pattern. Now I'm wondering. . .do I go to darling diapers & buy the potty pants pattern for my 2 yos?

I just got the DD AIO today. Haven't even printed it out yet. I've made a couple now with the M sz HB and they're kinda big. I really like the one pattern I got from Cyndigran, I"ve made the most with that.

I think I may want to try to draft my own as well, down the road. Thanks for the link, boscopup!

The potty pants pattern looks a lot like my own diaper pattern that I use for dd2. I roll the fleece out at the legs though, just my preference. Just so you know you could probably use that pattern for diapers too!
