Can I use embroidery thread for this?

I want to make some prefitteds out of IPF's. I don't have a serger, so I'm just going to give it a try with the overlock stitch on my regular machine. (I really don't want to T and T, so I'm hoping this works).

My machine is also an embroidery machine, and I have a ton of really pretty shiny thread made for machine embroidery. I am not at home right now, so I don't know if it is poly or nylon, but I can find out if it makes a difference. Can I use this to overlock the edges? I was thinking it would be really pretty, like a GMAR fitted, and honestly I've rarely used the embroidery function in my machine anyway so I have all this lovely bright-colored thread that is going to waste.

What do you all think? Should I give it a try?

Thanks!
Rebecca

The lady at the sewing shop told me that people often sew more with embroidery machine thread because it's shinier and stronger than cotton or poly all purpose thread.
