I am officially overdue today and went in for a doctor's appointment. She had said last week that we would talk about what to do at this appointment if baby hadn't come yet. She mentioned trying induction at the end of next week (my son was 8 days overdue and a 9 pounder-- very difficult labor). However, when I mentioned that I would rather use pitocin as a very last resort, she said that that was fine and if I wanted to wait and see what my body did that we could and as long as baby is doing well and my body is doing well, whatever I wanted to do she would support. We talked at length about pitocin and induction and other methods to get this birth going. I was just so impressed that she did not push her agenda or minimize the fact that I trust that my body and baby know what to do.
Up to this point, she has been really supportive of all the choices we have made regarding this birth, but I figured that she would kick into her medical mode when I came overdue. She really made me feel great about our relationship and that I made the right choice in physicians!
