Hello my DD who is 19 months is allergic or sensitive to vapo ru, does anyone elses child do this? The day after i rub it on her she gets this bad bumpy red rash where i put it. So i was wondering if she is allergic to it and if so is there a rub i could use in place of it.

Just a thought...you could put the rub on a t-shirt and put the t-shirt under pj's. It sounds like a contact reaction.

Thanks guess i never thought of that .Mom always told me we needed it on the chest so the meds go into the skin. I found out today thats not true.

yes my daughter had a similar reaction. when i first tried vicks baby vapor rub my daughter broke out in a rash all over her chest where we had used it. i immediately stopped using it and now i use california baby colds and flu rub. it works well and she never has a reaction to it.

You might try Johnson & Johnson vapor rub. It is specifically for babies (if you read the directions on the Vicks it says not to use it on kids under two ~ though I will concede that most stuff says that and it isn't always true...)

I can't remember right this second, but there's one ingredient "missing" from the J&J kind.

Might help!

My DS never had a problem w/Vicks, but my DD did & thats when we switched to J&J for her.
