Curing Cavities with Nutrition - Page 39

My holistic dentist told me about it and recommends it highly. He told me to put a little Betadine on a q-tip and swab it on my son's teeth and gums after brushing twice a week.

Personally, I would be uncomfortable with this. Betadine is so commonly used in hospitals, as to have bacteria-resistance developing, I believe. I'd rather see someone use coconut oil, a drop of lavender essential oil, or manuka honey and swab, swish or "chew" it around in their mouth.

Betadine contains other chemicals, I would NOT use in the mouth at all. I think hospital use of it has declined ... using it as a cleaning substance and for general hand care. It's only used topically before surgery and that doesn't take care of all the issues hospitals have... I think antibiotics are much more to blame than iodine for bacterial resistance since they cause the bacteria to mutate and iodine does not.

Iodine from Lugol's or other form for oral supplementation is excellent for the mouth or any other application to the body to prevent infection. Our holistic dentist uses an iodine solution for irrigation after surgery. What I don't know is whether habitual use would stain the teeth?

The tooth looks more like I can see the different layers because her tooth now has broken down to about 1/4 of its original total size. The top edge looks really white and then there is sort of another layer below and what would have been within that is yellowish. The others (other top front 3) are half yellow brown, but not breaking. they do look weak though, like the enamel is thin.

The milk didn't taste as great as I was expecting, it didn't look creamy...it actually looked like skim milk when I poured the last bit out. It was weird. The taste was okay, but did not live up to the hype I suppose. I will try the other brand of raw milk at the co-op next time we go shopping.

Does everyone like the Nourishing Traditions book by Sally Fallon? I am sorry but eating brains is WAAAAY too much for me.

Off to buy some HVCLO from green pastures.
Yeah, that skimmed raw milk is junk. We need fat to absorb our minerals, and traditional people ate a LOT of fat for the fat soluble vitamins.

I love Nourishing Traditions. I haven't eaten brains yet but I have done liver and heart and sweetbreads! We modern people are so far removed from what humans traditionally ate with our artificially flavored and packaged food and our sanitized stores. And we are paying for it with our health. That book is so important to me for that reason. It took a long time for my former veg*n self to eat organ meats for sure. Shellfish is just as good and that was way easier... slurping raw oysters is a treat.

Oh duh, it's a special form of Betadine not the one with chemicals that is used topically... very interesting. It's povidone iodine. I think I used to know something about this version and have since forgot it. I'd wonder if it is active in the body?

Don't know if I've already linked this blog in this thread, but it's very on-topic. The author pulls together a nice set of data, beyond just Price's work, that fleshes out cavities and malocclusion and dental health in general with fat soluble vitamins, phytic acid, and minerals. He goes beyond that to discuss a wide range of modern, chronic health conditions that seem to be diet-related, but there's a special emphasis on dental health. It's well-cited, with links to source studies, and well-written. It's also easily searchable.

eta: and if you use teeth as the search word, you'll get a good sample of the best of the blog entries.

Thank you! I had seen his blog before and forgotten about it.

Btw, which Himalayan salt is very high in magnesium? That was you who mentioned it right?

That was me, it's the pink stuff. I buy it here, it's under the bulk gourmet sea salts...

I buy this stuff, fine grind. I've found that the 55-pound bag lasts us about 3 years, which works out to about $1/wk.

Nice source! I didn't see any nutritional references though... am I just missing it?

It was a different website, let me see if I can find it...

http://www.crystalsalt.co.nz/salt_for_life.htm

And then I had to look up how to convert ppm to something I can relate to a bit better.

Yes, see these links:

As a general guideline, we recommend the following doses of vitamin A from cod liver oil, along with a nutrient-dense diet that contains other vitamin A-rich foods:

Children age 3 months to 12 years: A dose of cod liver oil that provides about 5000 IU vitamin A daily, obtained from about 1 teaspoon of regular cod liver oil or ½ teaspoon of high-vitamin cod liver oil.

I would do the butter oil 3x per day if there is a cavity problem, as the vitamin K doesn't last for long in the bloodstream. Dr. Price combined the two in small doses for every meal to heal bones and teeth.

Wow, this is a lot of great info! I made it all the way through last weekend, and made notes and everything for ways to help my family, especially my 2 yr old dd who is having dental issues.

I have since lost my notes

Can someone please tell me the brands of A&D that are good? I didn't realized that the kind we were using is synthetic so I want to order the good kind, and hopefully my kids will take it, they like this one, so I'm crossing my fingers that they'll like a new one.

Just got the Nourishing Traditions from the library today too

TIA

Ok, can you guys tell me what would be wrong with this CLO?

Just the difference in dosages? That's what I have right now, I want to be sure that it's ok to take until I get the high dose.

Thanks

That CLO probably has synthetic vitamins added in. Such as A and D. you want blue ice CLO. You can go to westonaprice.org to read up on CLO

Ditto, and there is evidence that high heat processing required for standard softgels damages the omega 3 fatty acids, creating free radicals, making it toxic. Blue Ice softgels are low heat processed I believe.

decay and organic butter questions

I live in canada where raw milk is illegal, I am trying hard to get some but it's proving to be harder than I thought. Since I cant get raw milk it's hard to get butter too. I did however find organic butter at the health food store, it is light yellow in colour, is this what I should be giving my daughter? She has a dairy intolerance so should she be able to tolerate the butter? Or do I need to find a different source. Also, my daughter is 22 months and is supposed to be going under for some fillings. The dentist didnt take xrays or anything of her teeth and didnt even touch them, just said they are decaying. They are at a white stage but one tooth has a bit of brown. My question is how do I know they are starting to heal when they do. I have a feeling if we see the same dentist 6 months from now he will tell me she still needs the work...

Thanks for any help....I really appreciate it.

New to the thread

Hi all,

I'm new to this thread (have read the first 15 pages so far). I want to thank everyone for their amazing advice. My 2yo son has small dark spots on his first year molars (2nd years haven't come in yet), and I'm determined to reverse the problem! Hard to say why it's happening - he rarely has candy or juice - it may be due to lots of antibiotics before tubes were put in his ears - maybe because of a milk allergy he has finally grown out of.

I now have a very long list of things to get started with to save his teeth, and I'm finally feeling like I have some power over the situation! Here's my plan... am I missing something, or overdoing anything?

1. Ordered CLO/Butter Oil from Green Pastures.
2. Xylitol 3-5 times a day
3. Making bone broth tomorrow - I can't imagine he'll drink it, but I'm planning on using it for veggies, rice, etc.
4. Thinking of adding a very small amount of trace minerals to his water once a day- or maybe use this instead: http://www.vitacost.com/Peter-Gillha...s-Formula-Calm
5. Homeopathic cell salts: calc phos and calc fluor
6. Grass fed butter, cheese and some meat (he often refuses meat) - still working on the grass fed milk source
7. Adding probiotics to plain yogurt every morning
8. Considering MI paste

Also, has anyone used these Uncle Harry products, or does anyone have an opinion on the ingredients?

- Uncle Harry's Children's Toothpaste:

- Uncle Harry's Remineralization Powder:
http://www.uncleharrys.com/Merchant2...ory_Code=MP-AO

Thanks again!
