I am so in shock about this article. He uses outdated quotes and research (20+ years) and outright fabrications to support his claim that neonatal circumcision is not only beneficial, but absolutely necessary.

In the adult it may be necessary to clean the area several times a day which leads to excessive penile attention and manipulation.

Both you and your son will be pleased that you made a decision favoring prophylactic surgery thereby preventing future problems related to the redundant and obsolete foreskin. One medical writer, almost 100 years ago, said, "Life insurance companies should class wearers of a prepuce under the head of a hazardous risk." Don't handicap your son or yourself anymore than you must in this life. Make a wise decision for him now. It's up to you!

Mandy, there is a small group of extremists devoted to continuing the practice of neonatal circumcision. Their numbers are probably no more than a few dozen around the world. Dr. Weiss is one of them and the site where that information was posted is owned by an Englishman named Vernon Quaintance who is also one of them.

They know that their information is outdated and incorrect but it is not their intent to provide information that is correct. Their intent is to perpetuate the practice of infant circumcision and the way they do that is by misleading and scaring expectant parents. Dr. Weiss is a member of a group that circumcises for religious reasons and I suspect that his views are influenced by that following. He was formerly a member of the AAP's Taskforce on Circumcision and he was involved in the formation of their policy statement. He has seen all of the research but yet, he writes all of this misleadinng information in direct conflict with the findings of the Taskforce on Circumcision. Truth is not in his vocabulary. Deceit is definitely there though. You can go to any of the circumcision fetish sites and find links to Dr. Weiss's writings as well as others who are willing to lie. The internet is not necessarily a place of truth and you have to weigh the bulk of the information you find to winnow out the truth.

wasn't the real reason that circumcision became popular in the late 19th century that it was seen as a "cure" for masturbation?
