TMI question

Does losing mucous only mean something exciting if its bloody?

The past 2 days I ;ve been having lots of contrax, some a bit painful, others not, and also been loosing gobs of mucous. No blood. I just had a huge chunk come out.

Does it mean anything???? Trying not to get my hopes up. I suppose it means I will have a baby in 2-3 weeks, huh?

This is the only baby I lost a noticable mucus plug with. It wasn't bloody, really...it was a weird brownish-gray color. But I continued to have bloody mucus (bloody show) every time I went to the bathroom the rest of that day, and Ian was born early the next morning.

When I lost mine, I didn't think too much of it because I've heard other women say they lost their plug and didn't go into labor for another week or so. But then when I was in labor, my sister (the midwife) told me that in her experience, when a woman sees a definite mucus plug, she's usually in labor within 24 hours. She said when I emailed her to tell her I had lost my plug, she knew then that the baby was about to be born and she was going to miss it.

So if you just lost a large chunk of mucus, I'd say just make sure everything is ready and try to rest as much as you can today!

With each one of mine, the plug was a bit bloody and VERY obvious. My babies were always born within 24 hours. This time I've been losing a ton of mucus, but none of it is bloody (well, except after my one internal I had so my midwife could check for position of the baby). So, I'm not expecting this one to come anytime soon, based on my previous births.

This is a good timing thread....

I've had more mucus today with bloody (not bright but darker) spots, streaks and what not. Nothing too major but it got my attention. Not to be too TMI but the consistency of the mucus is more eggwhitey in consistency than usual. Not that I know what to expect or look for but I thought it was a bit odd about the more eggwhitey consistency.
Also more pressure in my pelvis, some BH contractions and the babe is movin' today.

I haven't had anything bloody or in gobs, but it seems like there's more and more mucus all the time, eggwhitey and a little yellowish in color. I keep checking (hoping ) for something more dramatic every time I pee, but alas, nothing yet!

I lost part of my plug at 34 weeks...it was clear and looked exactly like hair gel. There was a TEENY tiny bit of brown CM in it, but that's it. I'm still here and 36 weeks tomorrow. Usually the plug, like the amniotic fluid, will regenerate over time, too, so even if you loose the majority of it at once, you can still continue to lose more until baby is here.

The things we look forward to when pregnant... LOL I keep hoping to see some huge sign too...
Guess I'll finish packing my bag to kill the time.

Here goes the TMI so sorry. Lost a big part of the plug it seems earlier this evening. I felt it slip out when I went to the bathroom. Looked pretty big and kinda a fleshy color from what I could tell looking in the toilet. DH looked at it too and agreed. Again, I have nothing to compare this too so I don't know how big it is usually or what have you. I wanted to scoop it out to look at it but didn't . Later my mom said I should of just to see it, I think she was interested b/c she said she never got to see hers with her 4 births b/c she lost her plug during labor.
Anyway, did I read you right Mom2angelbabies- that the mucus plug regenerates itself even at this stage when it's starting to come out in blobs?

I haven't seen mine yet...but from our childbirth class, your plug can be bloody or not, can come out in small chunks or big one(s). It can happen any time, and you can walk around for weeks afterwards...and yes, your cervix is constantly producing mucus, so it will regenerate to some extent, although the reason it falls out in the first place is because some changes (thinning/opening) are happening in your cervix and it's no longer being held in place.

So...it's exciting and means something is happening, but it doesn't mean beans about when you're actually going to have the baby.

Yep- just like amniotic fluid...in order to help prevent infection. Of course it's not going to completely replace itself, just keep a little something in there until labor. Our bodies just seem to know every little way to protect those innocent little babies.

Okay, and now I'm hopping on the TMI bandwagon...just after I wrote my post above, I took a potty break and ploop out came a - well, I won't call it a chunk because it didn't look very solid - but a pretty big blob of white mucus. No blood, I didn't look at it all that closely 'cause it was already in the toilet. Geez, I know I am full of wishful thinking at the moment and I just got done telling everyone that you can lose your plug and walk around pregnant for weeks...but wouldn't it be nice if I were going to evict this baby soon-ish? :-)

Oh, and I'm editing to add that I'm not going to breathe a word of this to DH, who is stuck at work at the moment with an evil Exchange server that keeps breaking down on him, and he really wants/needs to get the new hardware up and running before he takes off for the baby and despite that I STILL hope to go into labor earlier than later. I'm so ready!

I also realized this evening that my horrible heartburn has lightened considerably over the last few days - I've been eating a lot fewer Tums. Could this be because the baby has dropped? Oh, the waiting! It's like waiting for Christmas only with major pelvic pain, a teeny tiny bladder, crazy ice cravings, and labor to get through before you can open your presents!

I've been losing mine for about 2 weeks now.... At first I felt gross with it coming out. But I guess now it just seems normal... Mine looks more like snot. ewwwww!!! No blood yet.

I lost my plug at 32w 5d, and it was more like snot too. My cervix had shortened to 1 1/2cm so I figure that is what caused it to escape. My cervix is still closed, but I don't know if it has thinned anymore. I've been on strict bedrest since then. I think if I tried to go jogging, something might happen

I'm officially at 35w today! So if I can last another week all will be golden......

Good luck and hopefully labor wiill be soon to follow...
