Sensitized during pregnancy?

Can someone explain this to me please?

I think it's because my diet was so high in wheat during my pregnancy with DS that he's now allergic to it.

My DP said from a bilogical standpoint, this wouldn't make sense:
If a mother lived in a region that only enabled her to eat little variety, and if her baby got sensitized to some of those foods, there wouldn't be much left for the LO to eat, and well, those peoples wouldn't survive very long.

I know there's a simply explanation for this, but I can't gather my thoughts together on this one.

TIA

Wheat is highly allergenic and most people are sensitive to begin with. It is very possible that your baby was sensitized during your pregnancy-that's the case in almost all instances of babies with allergies. Pregnancy is a time of stress on the body and hormonal changes can affect gut health-that's why you hear yeast infections are common during pregnancy. When a yeast overgrowth occurs in the gut, the intestinal lining becomes permeable and things that you eat on a regular basis can slip through the gut lining and into the bloodstream where antibodies will be formed to attack the invading substance. Now you are reacting (however mildly) to said food, and your blood is telling your baby that this is a foreign substance. And if that mother had a restricted variety of food, it isn't likely that she would be eating the refined substances that would allow for an imbalance in the gut-ie: donuts, pasta, bread, cakes, candy etc. The standard american diet is what does us in. That is what feeds the bacteria in the gut. Hope that made sense.

It does make sense. Yeah, from a biological standpoint, when you think evolution, it shouldn't, but when you consider that people take extra good care of sickly members of their species, it does make sense. I know my ds wouldn't DIE if I ate all these things he's allergic to, but he would be sickly until he was old enough to find his own food that didn't make him sick. KWIM? And until then, I would probably be extra careful with him. With most animals, the sickly are left to die. With people, their mothers watch them like hawks and pamper them until they're well.

My best friend has a theory that all these allergies to food that are occurring so much are due to 2 things: The way most of our foods are bathed in poisonous chemicals while they're growing and then the way they're overly processed before we eat them. Makes sense to me.

It actually has alot to do with vaccinations, heavy metals (fillings) and antibiotic usage, and refined foods. All of these things disrupt the bacterial balance in the intestine and make a prime situation for allergies to develop. We can't see the effects of evolution yet, because most of these things have only been around a century if that. Your gut shouldn't be damaged, and then a breastfed baby wouldn't be getting the allergens the subsequent damage has caused in the breastmilk. Then what you are eating wouldn't be making him sick. Allergies aren't really a "sickness" they are conditions that we have (by and large) brought on ourselves. My kids have never had antibiotics, refined foods, vaccinations or dental fillings. However, I have. It is the damage to MY body that sensitized them during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's really horrible when you think about it. If I had known back then what I know now, you can be very sure I would have done extensive gut healing before getting pregnant.
