I'm so lost...

Well I go to my dr. today but shes a little odd.. Plus she JUST got out of school. I am her first patient.. ugh.. I've tried to switch a thousand times but they say no.. (military thing I guess) anyways I've been having allot of Braxton Hicks or at least I think they are, the problem with those are my stomach stays really hard for up to 30 mins.. Which seems odd to me, also I've been having really watery discharge (which my Dr says in normal) but I completely disagree. I also think I've been having back labor ( I was a bit confused about this since I have scholeosis) (sp?) It feels like my bones are rubbing together in my tail bone.. Its really uncomfortable, but it comes agos lasting about 20 secs. Another thing is (this sounds so weird lol ) the whole area around my butt is swollen and its really soft... My Dr has no explanation for any of these so I'm hoping that maybe you guys have been through some of this so I will calm down. I'm worried because my husband is gone and I have to drive myself. I dont want to mistake Real Labor for False Labor and then not me able to drive myself.. Although I'm pretty sure that wont happen i just need to ease my mine... Thanks!

I can't speak for what most of your symptoms might be, but I wonder if you are getting dehydrated? I get more BH contractions that last longer when my uterus is irritable because I haven't been drinking enough. Usually pregnancy-related swelling can be helped by drinking more water, too. From my experience, watery discharge is normal this late in the game...mine definitely increased around 36-37 weeks.

Good luck with your doctor. Is there any way you can ask her about getting a consultation from another doctor if she doesn't know the answer to something? It seems weird to just leave it at "I don't know" (although my OB also left many questions with an "I don't know" or "It will go away after the birth"...that's part of why I switched to midwife care).

i dont think there is any way i am dehydrated i drink at least a gallon of water a day. but thats what i also thought thats why i have been drinking so much. they arent uncomfortable at all my tummy just gets really hard. I went to see another dr when she was on leave and he was great answered all my questions (of course he is one step down from an admiral) i would much rather have him but they just wont let me switch. She says she is going to ask another dr and get back with me but she never ever does..

How soon are you due? Just curious.

I've only experienced a really long contraction (20 mins-ish) one night while laying in bed. It was terribly painful, and just would not let up. As soon as I finally got up out of bed and had a drink of water, it went away. My doctor said that I likely just needed to change position. Is it happening regularly to you? I have no idea why that would be happening, but I would say if you're up and about, try laying down. If you're laying down, try getting up and walking.

When you say the area around your butt is swollen and soft, do you mean at the base of your back / pelvis area? Bones are seperating back there, and I can feel a difference on myself, which could be like a swollen feeling. It's not soft though - I can actually feel the bones (but I am fairly slim). Not sure what else that could be.

I'm not really any help, but do want to say good luck. It would be frustrating to not be able to get answers from your doctor!

I get a lot of BH some nights, and it does feel like my belly is just hard for half an hour, but when I focus more carefully, there is the ebb and flow of one ending and the next beginnning. As for the watery discharge, yep that is completely normal. If you are worried about leaking amniotic fluid, you can get simple litmus paper strips to test at most drug stores. Amniotic fluid is very alkaline. And about driving yourself to the hospital....is there anyone you can possibly call? I think taking a cab would be much better than driving yourself, if there isn't anyone. I personally don't think I could deal with driving while in labor, even in early labor I think it would be awful. Sorry, I reread that, and I'm not trying to scare you about driving, I would just exhaust all other possibilities first.

And Welcome to MDC!

well i only live about 1/2 mile away from the hospital. So hopfully i can make it! I wish i had someone to take me but i dont

Well, 1/2 a mile is probably doable. I'm at least a half hour from the hospital (but having a homebirth), so when I envision driving to the hospital in labor, it is definitely a different picture.

I've had BH that last for a long time, I've never timed it though so I don't know how long exactly. As for the fluid leak, I'd go to the hospital and have it checked, bypass the doctor all together

And if you wanted to order online, you could get Amniotest or Amnicators so you can test yourself.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but when I sit down to go to the bathroom (esp. at night or if I'm trying to poop) I get a big bulge that's sort of centered between my vagina and anus. The baby's head is low and is pushing down all the tissue between it and the outside in a squishy round bulge. Feels like I could poop the baby out sometimes! If only it were that easy, LOL.

Sorry you don't like your doc. That sucks. Maybe the other guy will be on call when you are in labor?? Good luck,

Carol
