Reading Suggestions

Hi Mammas,

My older dd has several allergies (dairy, soy, melons, blueberries, corn?) and now our littlest dd is reacting to even more through bm. Currently I eat no dairy, soy, corn, nuts, or eggs. Initially dd1 was allergic to only a few things, then started reacting to everything and now seems to be back to the initial allergies. However, I question myself all the time. She has some very challenging tantrums and cries more than I think most 4.5 year olds do. I'm just very confused at this point as to what she truly is reacting to.

I read the Doris Rapp book but didn't entirely understand her elimination diet. How will I know if the tantrum is typical for dd's age or because she's eating dairy, wheat, bananas, whatever? Although we've been dealing with it since she was a baby, I feel as if I know even less now.

And how do I heal a leaky gut?

Please help me with some resources.

Thanks!

The elimination diet does nothing to heal the gut. If you eliminate the "right" foods it will lessen reactions, but that's about it. If you don't heal the gut you just end up being allergic to something else. Breaking the Viscious Cycle is a pretty good book, Enzymes for Autism and Other Neurological Conditions was a bit better in terms of discussing gut health and healing. There are also many supplements which work to block histamine responses and soothe and heal the intenstinal lining that these books don't really go into. It is a long journey, but in the end what helped us was a clean diet (not the specific carb diet in Breaking the Vicious Cycle) and some supplements geared toward improving gut health and neurological function. We also used probiotics, enzymes and alot of homeopathy. Good Luck!
