Dear Dr Reichman
May I suggest that you watch a teaching video for Medical Students on the anatomy and physiology of the male prepuce before you recommend circumcision in a national forum (links below). You don't seem to understand that, when a baby boy loses his foreskin, he loses 1/3 to 1/2 of his adult penile skin. This skin is highly errogenous as the video demonstrates very well.

The study that you mentioned about HIV prevention in Africa was refused for publication by the British Medical Journal. It has not been published in any peer reviewed medical journal.
Thank you,

I don't see any feedback links on there. Maybe they really don't want to hear what a biased piece of crap this is.

Look again at the page. I didn't get it at first either. But, you can
1. rate the story "Low" on the stars at the bottom of the page
2. write to MSNBC on the top of the page
3. write to the author by clicking on her email near her picture.

I did all 3. Baybee

Boy, I think she hit about every myth she could in that one. :

Actually, she could go for it even without a penis...and be privy to a lot of the same "benefits."

My letter:

Greetings:

I must admit that I was rather shocked to read Dr. Judith Reichman's seriously flawed article at a respected media source like MSNBC. The research conducted in South Africa, cited by Reichman, is not published in peer-reviewed journals, meaning that a jury of the researchers' peers determined that the study was inadequate to support the hypotheses that they presented. Ultimately, many of the statements made by Dr. Reichman are simply untrue: scientist have been unable to prove conclusively that circumcision benefits male (or female partner) health. Furthermore, even the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine circumcision of male infants.

I highly recommend that MSNBC carefully review material of such a controversial nature as the issue of circumcision before presenting it to the public. Your publication of this misleading information will affect the decision of parents and may ultimately lead to the harm of innocent children.

Thank you,

Here's what I emailed the "good" doctor:

Dear Dr. Reichman,

I would like to invite you to join us in the 21st century. Circumcision is simply no longer acceptable to the majority of the American public. You should take a moment to peruse this new thing we call "the internet" and hear some of the things people are saying about this outdated practice. Did you know that 90% of the world population is uncircumcised, and enjoy much better sexual health than we Americans do, with vastly reduced rates of AIDS, cervical and penile cancer? Did you know that thousands of men have restored their prepuces through skin expansion and report huge increases in sexual pleasure and sexual satisfaction with an anatomically correct penis? Did you know that every single case of UTI that circumcision prevents comes at the cost of 100 circumcision-related complications like excessive bleeding, infection, degloving, necrosis and even death? Did you know UTIs can actually be treated with this new thing we have called "antibiotics"? At the end of your ill-informed advice, you say that you would have yourself circumcised if you had a penis. I would like to give you some good news. You don't have to be male to be circumcised, doctor. Females are circumcised all over the world every day, and simply removing your labia and clitoral hood will render the same benefits you are proclaiming so earnestly in your article. You can be just as clean, healthy and hygenic as every other circumcised male in the world! Your article on circumcision, I see, is appropriately rated very low on msnbc. I hope you take heed of that. The times they are a-changing, doctor. Those hoary old ideas about circumcision and foreskin are not holding up too well to the light of scrutiny and education.

Sincerely,

JWD,
Business Owner,
Illinois

Boy, what a quack! I'm not insulting professionally trained, logical doctors out there, but SHE is neither of those. I'd sure like to "bump" into her just once.

To Dr. Strangelove when it comes to the subject of FEMALE circumcision (the clitoral hood): "I personally would go for it, but I don't have a vagina."

Makes the same zero amount of sense!

DaddyJoe, that letter made my day, despite the fact that it needed to be written in the first place.

My thoughts exactly!

You should e-mail and tell her that!

Love all the letters that have been posted so far.

For those of us who lack such eloquence you can rate the article at the bottom of the page...I gave her half a star because I couldn't get it to go to zero. :
