Puh, got a girl this time...

My son was born April 04 in a Catholic hospital (no choice due to health insurance, but I actually like my insurance, would just like more choices re: hospitals). We have found that I am carrying a girl this time (so why do I still crave more meat than sweets?).

Maybe this is crazy, but I am kinda glad, since the first time around I felt like I had to be extra vigilant so that he won't get cut by mistake. I basically yelled out NOOOO, when they asked if he should be circumcised, shortly after he was born! Well, maybe all those hormones helped. But I hardly ever put him in the nursery for exactly that reason (afraid of accidental circumcision) and otherwise sent my hubby to be with him (e.g. hearing test).

Isn't it crazy that we have to be scared for our little ones in the hospital, just because they are boys???

With my first I had recently woken up from general anesthesia (long awful story) and just barely met my son when the nurse started badgering me. She was saying the line for the circumcision is starting now. Huh, line?? Seriously that's what she was saying. And I said no, we're not doing that. And she said, oh come on, just let me take him, we'll be back quick. What??? I told her no again and she started arguing with me! All this, he'll never keep it clean and that's just gross and you'll regret this and you'll have to do it eventually anyway. It was so oppressive and scary to be yelled at and threatened with a surgical procedure on my newborn at a vulnerable moment after a difficult birth.

(Another nurse, same hospital, told me I was "too fair-skinned" to nurse!)

lol I plan to LITERALLY say this if I get asked twice... or worse, the badgering you unfortunately got, by the same person about circumcision:

What part of MALE... GENITAL... MUTILATION... DON'T YOU... UNDERSTAND?! I think coming on strong and "crazy" will make more of an impact to such a dense person.

Astoria, I think what I would have done compared to what you did would have been the difference in a space shuttle launch and striking a match!

That is just awful!!!

Seriously, you need to write a letter of complaint to the hospital! This is what is known as soliciting for an unnecessary procedure. The only way hospitals, doctors, and nurses are going to stop this abuse of newborn babies and new mothers and fathers is if we complain, and complain loudly. to you for having to put up with that s@#t.
